Refillable mug question

We have free dining (QS)for out stay at POP, but paid the difference to upgrade to TS. From what I understand the mug is free with QS but not with TS??? If I had one, but paid to upgrade to the other...do I still get the mug? Just curious as every time in the past I have purchased one (love it for my morning coffee). It would be great to have it be part of the package. It just seemed odd to me that the less expensive option would give you one, but the more expensive one would not. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the mug does not come with the TS plan. Seems odd to me too, but we did not get it with our TS, only the times we have booked QS.

Is this for 2011 or 2012?

2011, correct, the DDP does not include the mug.

2012, the DDP will include the mug.

As for the why? There are two options that I can think of.
#1 - Drive people to buy the higher priced (DxDDP) or higher margin (QSPD) plans by offering the mug.

#2 - Since DDP is the most common one, don't include it so people may buy it more often.

Either case is moot next year though.

We are doing the deluxe ddp next month.....dh's love eating at WDW, we wives love attracions, so going all out on the food so the dh's bear with us at the attractions!!!
In any case, I seriously doubt anyone would pay that much for deluxe dining just to get the 'free' mugs. I'm thrilled we're each getting one...we can grab a cup of something first thing in the morning and use a snack credit for a quick bite to hold us until our usual 10:30 brunch ADRs.
I would imagine that if Disney adds refill mugs to dining plans, they aren't losing any money on it...even when they add it the the regular dining plan next year. I think they just want people to figure it's so very convenient to buy the ddp if it includes that free mug as well....it's all about convenience, not cost saving. Usually anyway.

Sorry, no mug in 2011 if you upgrade to the basic plan. You'll get the regular allotments of the basic plan, which won't include a mug until 2012. (Part of the reason they are doing it in 2012, I think, is that they are instituting a substantial price hike with no other change in allotments on the basic plan.)

I also wouldn't upgrade to deluxe solely to get the mug. That's a lot more eating that will be made necessary.

I have seen this question a few times, and no one seems to know what they reasoning is. Well, here is my theory on the business reasoning. When all the numbers of average cost per meal type, and cost of the plan, profit magin, etc. are figured the QS plan was too cheap compared to the TS plan. So they tinker with the plan to maintain their desired profit margin, and balance the cost of the plans compared to each other. They toyed with the number of snacks and then added to mug. Now the QS plan gives the desired "cheaper" option without being so cheap as to drive huge business from the TS plan.

This is evident by the way they tinker with the plans each year. Its number crunching 100%. :teacher:

Agree. Also, if you figure that one plan is vastly more popular than the others, you can get away with giving slightly less (e.g. no mug, 1 snack), since it still fits the bulk of what people are looking for.

(That's the much more clear way of saying what I was trying to say :p)
