Refillable mug and transportation question

I am heading to DW in January, the refillable mugs that you purchase, can you use them in the parks also? Do they change the design of them from year to year? We will be staying at Pop Century but have ADRs at Fort Wilderness for the HDDRl, will we be able to take a bus there? And another thing, my hubby thinks he has a broken foot and will probably not be healed enough to do walking, I heard that you can rent motorized scooters at guest relations, and someone told me that he may be able to walk right up on to the rides because of his disability, is this true?

The refillable mugs are for use at our resort, not the parks.

You can take a bus from Pop to a park then a bus from the park to Ft. Wilderness.

January is a long way off, I hope hubby is healed by then. There is something called a Guest Assistance Card that can be helpful for disabled guests. Check the Disabilities board for more useful responses.

septbaby gave you some good info. Just wanted to add that yes there are ECV scooters available for rent at the parks, but I believe it is first come first serve so if your hubby is not healed up by then and will really need it you may want to rent from an offsite company for length of stay to guarantee you have it, also you would then have it to get him to/from the parks if he is unable to walk.

The GAC pass that is available for those with disabilities I don't know too much about, but I am pretty sure it is not a 'walk directly onto the rides' kind of deal. From the experiences I have read of other posters, you will wait just as long - or at times maybe even longer - than other guests, as you will often be waiting for a ride vehicle that can accomodate you if you were for example in a wheelchair. If he can walk through the queue on his own, he will most likely have to do so. I would visit the disAbilities board for more accurate information from people who have actually used it, but hopefully your hubby is all healed up by then.

Thanks guys. Will I be able to go directly back to my hotel after the HDDR show, hopefully I don't have to go back to a park then get on another bus back to the hotel.

I know January is a long time away, but I know that last year he broke his right foot and he got the cast on in November, had it on for 6 weeks, then went to PT until the end of April, this is why I'm a little concerned. It wasn't something that was short lived.

I will check the disability board.

Thanks, Jen:thumbsup2

Yes. When you leave Pioneer Hall there will be buses to take you back to your resort.

When we did HDDR (which was great) we were staying at Pop. We had to share a bus with CBR.

We did the HDDR last week, August 25th and had a wonderful time. Hopefully you will too. We stayed at POP and did the 9:30pm show. There were buses outside the hall waiting to take guests back to their hotel. We shared a bus with Poly & CBR.

If he has difficulty walking or standing, WDW will recommend a wheelchair or ECV. Since most of the lines are wheelchair/ECV accessible, he will usually wait in the same lines with everyone else. As was mentioned, sometimes travel with a wheelchair or ECV means an extra wait - either for an accessible ride vehicle or because only a certain number of people with special needs are allowed on an attraction at a time. THis is because of fire safety or evacuation reasons.
A Guest Assistance Card (not a PASS) is a card used to give CMs information about the special needs a guest has - GACs are usually used for invisible needs. You don't need one with a wheelchair or ECV unless there are also invisible needs or needs that are not met just by having an accessible line. GACs will usually not shorten the distance you walk. SO if there is concern about how far someone can walk, it would be better to rent a wheelchair or ECV.
There is information about renting ECVs and wheelchairs in the disABILITIES FAQs thread (link in my signature).
