I believe you still pay for the beer, but the mug is larger than the regular glass size so you get like 4 extra ounces each time. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me in a minute.

At least on the Nov cruise here didn't have to carry the mug everywhere with him. They put a token system in place. He turned in his mug when he was done @ the end of the day and got a token to turn in the next day to start drinking again He did turn his token in at breakfast on disembarkation day for a mug to bring home (to remind him of the cruise).

This is what I was going to add. The token (or coupon) lets you get the mug next time you want a beer without having to lug around the heavy mug all the time. Then, turn it in to take the mug home. I told DH that we need to make sure we remember where we put the mug so we can bring it on the cruise next year. We loved it so much we booked a 7 night for November 2010. This trip was just a 3 night to see how we all liked cruising.
