Refill Mugs - Are 2008 still good??

but you bought the mugs...so, he could have filled up the mug and then poured it into the water bottle, or just skip a step and go straight to the bottle. You do have free refills...does it absolutely HAVE to be in the mug? I just worry about the used water bottle touching the soda dispenser.

We just got back and stayed at the Boardwalk - they actually never filled our mug with soda or coffee - each time they just gave us a fresh paper cup and even gave us two once for both of us standing there. Another time the girl gave us a soda with no ice, a cup of ice and an empty cup. Once we redistrubuted - we had two full sodas.

They also told me to feel free to use the mug at any Disney resort over the course of my stay. We have never gotten the mug before but now we will get it every time!

I don't get too worked up over the mug policy - if Disney really cared about it they would come up with a system to stop it.

What did make me shake my head was the family filling them at the fountain at McDonald's at DTD.

I have heard many times from CMs and online a few times that the reason why the mugs are the same at every resort is that you CAN fill them up at any WDW resort.... during your length of stay.

This doesn't mean, while at Epcot that you can fill it up at Sunshine Seasons but you can walk over to BC and fill them up.... not as if anyone is physically stopping you, but you're "allowed" to do so. It's like soda-hopping.

I agree...when they first started doing the mugs, each resort had a different mug that was for that resort only. I am guessing that the change is due to ease of product manufacturing (more bulk) but also because of the dining plan...so many are resort hopping for the dining that it makes more sense to allow this.

I recently stayed at POP and the day I left (02/11/09), they had new mugs on the shelves. I wish they would have been there at the beginning at my stay, I bought the same one I already have.

On the morning of the 10th, the POP manager (I assume he was the manager since he was doing it) was offering to exchange our mugs (as well as others), if we had our receipt. We did, but I liked the ones I had and I was leaving that day anyway.

I just completed my 39th trip and the only time I didn't see the sign that it was good for the length of my visit was at Dixie Landings. I still have their mug and love it. It's big, it really keeps the drinks cold and I have on occasion brought it back..just because I like to hear the old time workers at Port Orleans offer to buy it off me LOL! They actually used to have the sign with the mug ads in the elevators, and when the mugs were in yoru room, it was on the sign with the price. I used to have a picture of it from the mid 90's and posted it once on this board. But it's long gone, since I really don't care who brings the mugs back.

I will say, in spite of want the signs say, when a mug is purchased, I can't count on both hands how many times I have heard a CM say, be sure to bring it back (or words to that affect) on your next trip, and not as often I've heard someone being told they can be used at any resort. Obviously, Disney does not care, or they would have put that in the training. I have had conversations over the years with 'suits' at the resorts, and they say it's up to the individual manager of the food court. If he (or she) feels it's good for their business to encourage people to bring back a cheap mug and stay in their resort, I've been told it was their choice. I have been told in the past that the soda is not really free, but exchanged for advertising. So, if that is true, Disney is really paying for it, in lieu of payment for all the advertsiing of Coke they do.

I was entertained at the food court this last trip. I was at the toaster and the gal next to me started explaining why she was using an old mug. I started to laugh and told her I didn't care..but I had to know, was she a Disboard member, and she admitted she was. She said she had been apologizing all week for using the mug. She seemed to think people were watching her, and planning on 'reporting' her on the board. I had a nice laugh about that. Hey lady, if you are reading this, knock yourself out LOL!

I thought it was an interesting touch by the way, when we saw two different families leave their mugs on top of the garbage container. I told the second family they were forgetting their mugs, and the mom told me they didn't forget them, they were hoping someone else could use them, as they were going home and had no room or use for them. (I assume before someone starts saying..yuck, l how could they drink out of a used mug that if anyone took it, they washed it..sort of like when you use a glass in a restaurant when someone else drank out of it).

I ended up at every WDW resort during our last trip except Fort Wilderness and All-Stars... I think I may have filled up at most of the CS.

We'll be at many of the resorts this trip too. I know we'll be walking around, exploring the grounds before/after our ressies and I'll definitely want to fill up. I think it's great that we can do this....but you're right..not at the parks! Besides, if you are on DDP, you get a drink with every meal anyway.

Mugs to re-use ore not?

I always wonder what the heck is the charm of lugging them around?

Exploring other resorts and then save maybe one ore two dollar ?

I guess I just don't see the big fuss.

I am new here and have seen a lot of anti-mug reusing sentiments but at the same time I see a lot of pro-bring your own drinks/food/snacks to the parks....isn't that technically against disney policy...yet I haven't seen anyone roasted for bringing snacks into the park

just an observation.......:confused3

The fuss is-----when you buy a refillable mug, you don't have to pay for your drinks out of the machines etc.and it is good for the duration of your trip only.
When you use a mug from a previous trip, it is like you are stealing your drinks because your free drink mug has expired so to speak. When you take snacks or whatever into a park, you are not taking something from Disney and not paying for it, like you would be if you went and got a mug full of diet coke with a mug from a previous trip. Enough said?

yeah but technically isn't a rule a rule....

if there is a rule you don't bring food in, but disney over looks it then its no big deal

if there is a rule to use the cup during original visit and you use it more and disney overlooks it then again, no big deal.

And personally I think they are losing less on the cost of soda than than what they loose by people bringing in snacks/food/drinks

I guess I just don't understand why breaking one rule is "better" than breaking another....

To me it's not about the rule, it's a matter of stealing. With the mug, you're taking something you didn't pay for.

popcorn:: aaahhh--this is GREAT!!

:surfweb: = me, seeing who the saint of the day is...

When I suggested :confused3 to my DW that we bring the mugs back with us - she calmly stated they were for length of stay only. Which means, we can't bring them back with us because that would be like Disney charging us for something after they stated it was included in the price. So I bring it up everytime she uses the Disney mug around the house, just to try and get a rise out of her.:rotfl2: Hasn't yet. Even my 2 DD's are getting in on the act of telling me, "it's for length of stay only dad!" My DW also says, "Go ahead and post that you are bringing the mugs back with you and see the reaction you get at the Disney site". I SEE! So, we will be buying FOUR new mugs (again) this summer. I think this is our 4th set!

I've refilled old mugs in the past. I don't feel guilty because

A) I drink maybe one soda every two days over my 2 week stay.
B) When I'm in the park, I pay $4 for a bottle of soda that most merchants charge $1.50 on and still make a profit.
C) I eat every meal on Disney property. I spend hundreds of dollars on breakfasts', lunches, and dinners. Literally, hundreds of dollars. I feel no shame in taking .20 cents worth the soda once every two days.

Yeah! And since I've purchased an sweatshirt 2 x a year for the last 5 years aren't I entitled to take one without paying at this point?? What about those over-priced Mickey Ice Cream Bars??? I can get them at Walmart for 1/4 of the price. I am just going to take one from the food court. As long as no one says anything it's ok, right???

Seriously people, justify it any way you want, it's still stealing.

POI ~ I don't believe there is a rule about bringing food into the parks seeing as though Disney has a posted size limit for the coolers that are allowed into the park.

LOL...I honestly could care less if someone brings an old mug...I just think its interesting that people have a double standard when it comes to breaking one rule and not the other...lol

to me...when someone knowingly breaks a rule its wrong, regardless if it is "stealing" by taking goods that they didn't pay for or "stealing money" by bringing your own food instead of paying for it in the park when the rule is not to bring food in the park.

Either way...I'll probably take my kiddos snack to the park, and I have 2 mugs that my cousin bought on her last trip and never used and I'll use them while I am there :scared1:

If on either accounts a CM stops me and says "you can't do that" I will stop doing it...no big deal....but if some puffed up guest stops me...he or she is likely to find my freshly filled soda atop their head :dance3:

To all those who consider it stealing and have no problem saying so on the net-do you say anything when you see people refilling old mugs or non-Disney mugs? What has been the reaction of the person refilling the mug when you confronted them?

Thank you all for the healthy discussion on this topic and clarifying the fact that Disney has started selling mugs with the a new design.

It appears that the question of "Whether the re-use of re-fillable mugs is possible or ethical" is as controversial a topic as "Will Obama's plan really save our economy?" or "Are DVC'ers from red or blue states?"

Let's not discuss these last two topics though as political views and discussions are prohibitted on this site.

Thank you all again for your thoughts and replies.
