:firefight As of December 9, 2003 the Reedy Creek Professional Firefighters are officially at impasse with the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

This means firefighters, communicators, paramedics, EMTs and fire inspectors will be providing only basic services.

Public informational gatherings (pickets) may occur soon either on property or at the entrances of the property.

All of the unions on property actively support the firefighters as have the area, state and out of state firefighters.

The other news is that the union is filed a challenge to the state law that allows special taxing districts, like Reedy Creek, to prevent public employees from having access to elected officials. This will be resolved in the Florida Supreme Court sometime next year. This will set a precident that will effect every taxing district in the state! :firefight

Google Reedy Creek for more info! :firefight

Thanks for the information.

This is important information for a Disney planning board, why?

A guest once told me that "you are the reality in the midst of the fantasy" refering to the fire department.

When something goes wrong, someone gets sick or injured, or you have some type of emergency or urgency.....who ya gonna call? At Disney the Reedy Creek Fire Department :firefight is your 9-1-1 service 24-7-365.

Changes that may impact your visit may include scaling back to basic services only, informational gatherings (pickets) and less qualified personnel being hired (if the District gets it way). The union wants to maintain the highest standards and make the District an even safer place you to visit and for us to work in.

That may effect your visit. Don't you think?

By the way, if you are from Orlando, come by more often and say hi! It is only a 20-30 minute drive from the City Beautiful! :firefight

Well it could mean being stuck on a ride that breaks down for a longer time for those in wheelchairs. I think over half an hour was long enough. Btw were you one of my rescuers. If so thanks.

Thanks, caparamedic, for the update and important information, hoping things get rectified soon. And thanks so much for all you guys and gals do to make our trips to WDW and area more safe and restful, knowing in the back of our minds that you are there if needed. Thanks, and the joy of the holidays to all of you. :firefight

This would be the Community Board that you are on, not just a Disney planning board.

It's very important that the rescue workers are taken care of. They get all the real nasty things to deal with. I appreciate everything you guys do ::yes::

Hope you guys get everything resolved soon.

I also hear they got a brand new fire station :)

Reedy Creek serves the entire Reedy Creek Improvement District which includes the Walt Disney Resort and other citizens within the District. The RCFD also provides service to surrounding communities through mutual aid requests. We go on mutual aid calls more than you might imagine! We have responded with Orange County, Osceola County, Orlando Fire Department, Lake County and others!!

The new (fouth) station opened in August 2003 and the firefighters were prohibed from attending the opening ceremony (more on that if anyone wants info). The station remained empty untill October 2003 when some personnel, an engine and and ambulance were moved from Station 1 to the new Station 4. A Woods Truck from Station 2 was also relocated to the new station. Basically, we just spread ourselves a little thinner! For past 15 years, the fire department has not added any firefighter positions! The department's operations division has remained the same size even though Disney MGM opened, AK, Blizzard Beach, Tyhpoon Lagoon and many hotel rooms. The lastest being the Pop Century Resort! Would you believe our call volume reflects this? We have already responded to over 24,552 calls this year!

Thank you everyone with your kind words of support. We will print these out and post them at the Stations!:firefight

The only change is that part of Station 1 moved to station 4. No changes or increases in manpower. Station 1 doesn't have an engine anymore though.....

Funny thing is that we really don't need firefighters at Station 1! The tower needs a DO and LT, the Squad needs a PM and DO. The ambulance needs paramedics! If you are a firefighter at Station 1, you just move up to ambulance when a PM is off or calls in sick. :hyper:

Sending hopes that all is resolved and taken care of. We appreciate all that you do, we are fortunate that we have never had a problem or need, but there is always a first time. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

Hope all works out well for you.

I have the utmost respect for you guys and was "lucky" (or maybe that should be "unlucky") enough to meet Dan and Dan (both paramedics) back in 1997 at the Contemporary when I was having an allergy attack. I will never forget them (even though they didn't have to take me to the hospital -- they just monitored me). Wonderful guys. (And if they're still around tell them they are still remembered fondly by a lady who appreciated their help one September evening in 1997)

To all you guys and gals, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I appreciate the work you do. Nice knowing when I am at WDW there are great people like you there to help me if I ever need ya. Thank you.

I've forwarded this web page to the group. We have several Dans who are paramedics and I'm sure this will make their day!

Each time I visit WDW, I go by the station and say I will stop before I return home. Next time I WILL.

The fact that you have had no increase in Manpower boggles my mind!!

ps - I ordered a Reedy Creek Union shirt last week to add to my collection!
I will wear it in the World in February and glad to support your Union!!
