Reducing number of people in room?

I called to reduce the number of people in two of the rooms I previously booked and the agent said they can’t do that over the phone because the room rates went up and it would actually cost more to reduce the number of people. My only option is to talk to the front desk when checking in and ask them to reduce the number of people based on the rate I booked at.

Does this make sense?

Has anyone else had this happen?
If so, did the front desk reduce the total cost?

Yes, that makes sense. I always book 2 adults in a room, if I can get another adult to come I add them when I do online check in. Kids don’t make a difference in the room price as long as you don’t exceed max room capacity.

A wise person on this forum once said that it is easier to add adults to a room at check in than to remove them.

Disney and Universal really need to stop with their inability to truly modify reservations or tix and everything is “re-booked” as if it never existed at higher prices. Scam city.

By all means, make your changes when you check into the hotel

If you had 4 adults in the room and changing it to 2 adults at check in time, it can easily be adjusted.

And you could do charge back to your room when you make purchases in the park
Just ok charge back to your room, and it will reflect as a credit to your room cost

That is what I do when I stay at RP

I didn’t realize that. Good info. to have moving forward. Thanks!

For future reference, if you add people at check in, is the rate you originally booked or current rate?

I just called to ask about something different and mentioned reducing the number of guests at check in. The person I was speaking with said both reducing and adding the number of guests can easily be done at check in. At least I have options.
Not sure if that’s true, but that’s what he said.

Just clarifying, It is easier to add guests at checkin then reduce?

I am traveling with others besides my own rooms. We have a situation where one room has two guests, and then a request for two connecting rooms, each with four guests. One of the connecting rooms with four guests, needs to be three guests now. The room with two guests is no longer needed.
Is it better to add third person to the room with two guests at checkin?
Or cancel that room and reduce the one of the rooms with four guests to three at checkin?
They want to keep the connecting room request.

Sorry, this is all new to me. Thank you all for your help!
