Reduced PAP offer for DVC members

While I think it was a nice discount and we did take advantage of it, we were a bit miffed that they discontinued the 20% merch discount 60 days after we bought it. I found that a bit shady. That was one of the main reasons we opted for the Premium AP---we visited DQ once with it and will maybe do a water park 1x with it before they expire in Sept. I think anyone who already purchased the PAP should have been allowed to continue the 20% discount through the exp of the activated pass and applied that policy only to new purchases. So we won't miss the PAP's very much. I'll stick with my regular DVC AP.

Oh no I didn't know they had stopped the 20% discount on merch. That was one of the reasons we bought also. What a shame!

I agree, that is why we switched and got the PAP instead of renewing reg AP.

As an unrelated question does anyone know or can point me, we are thinking a buying a condo second home will we become Fl residents then and be able to get a FL AP?

The DVC AP and the Florida Resident AP are the same price. There are other FL Resident AP's available that are cheaper, with restrictions.

I was a bit miffed as well. But I didn't upgrade to the PAP just for that. I had to renew anyway, so it made sense to go with the PAP. BUT...to make a big deal about getting 20% off shopping with the PAP and then to take it away so soon? I guess Disney realized that many, many people were taking advantage of that upgrade. So once they got us all on board, away went that perk. Very Disney-like.

My PAP expires on Dec 6, towards the end of my annual Dec stay. But I'm not renewing it. I'm buying a 2 day expiring hopper. Since I don't have plans to go back before Dec '14, there's no reason to pay all that money. I'll wait and get it when I need it.

Thanks so much. I know there was info somewhere on here. I think last year a friend of mine that also has a condo, got one for like 300+ for the year but I think it might have been called seasonal and you could not go in summer or holiday. which is fine.. and thank you for the link... Sometimes I know I have seen info but just can't remember where..:)

i'm thankful that they did offer us the special (I bought three and will activate them in july when we go and hopefully get 3 trips out of the passes) but i doubt we'll see it again any time soon :(

i think the main reason you bought the discounted DVC PAP was that is was cheaper than the regular DVC AP. I am pretty sure if the DVC PAP and regular PAP had 10% discounts at the same time, you would have bought the cheaper one (DVC PAP). By saying the "main reason" you bought the PAP was for 20% is a huge exaggeration. Yes, it stinks they took it away but it was always subject to change, you agreed to that when you bought it.

I agree the lost of the 20% merch. discount was a kick in the pants. I thought, great, maybe I'll buy some "stuff" this time. That came to an end real fast. The worst part was we were there in October and upgraded our existing AP to the DVC PAP for a small difference while the 20% was still effective. I hestitated buying a few things thinking, heck we'll be back in January.....needless to say, we ended up going to the outlet to pick up things for the grandkids.

I would love to see if offered again. We will not be going before the end date to activate it but will the next year and would love the premium feature of the waterparks.
We might not be the typical DVC members. We love the World, but often vacation elsewhere. Specials like that could draw us there. We often travel with other families, so that brings in a lot more money.

Disney is very good with data. I think DVC convinced the parks to let us have this deal because DVC members (as a group) were starting to spend more time away from the parks and more time off site. (They probably saw a spending trend they didn't like). If the PAP deal reverses that trend, we may see the deal come back again or maybe even made permanent. We'll see, I guess.

Another thing the offer did was get Disney some extra money in the 4th quarter. We had AP vouchers that we planned to use in Oct 2012 but ended up buying PAPs so we could go to a water park. We bought two more PAP vouchers in Dec 2012 to use in late 2013. So Disney got an extra $1600 from us in the 4th quarter that we would have given them eventually, but over a 2 to 3 year period.

But they did not get a 1600 pick up to the bottom line. They have to incur a liability for the unused portion of your ticket.

Respectfully, you are not really correct here bwang123. If you go back to that thread in the Fall of 2012 you will see I posted several times about this. I had a gap of 2-3 days between when my then current AP was to expire and when the new DVC offer was to begin. I actually paid cash for park tickets in the interim instead of purchasing the regular AP---with the 20% discount perk being a primary reason for us. So this is not a "huge exaggeration" in my specific case. Had I known they were going to discontinue that 20% SO SOON after my purchase, I would have just stuck with the regular AP and skipped buying the cash tickets from Undercover Tourist.
And yea....I know all about the "subject to change" disclaimer. I'm a seasoned DVC/AP guest. Thanks.
