I returned my movie to redbox yesterday and they don't have a record of my return. They said if the movie doesn't turn up I have to pay full price:confused3. As anyone ever had this problem?

I assume you didn't ask for or get a returned email when you returned it?

Hmmm.. never had that problem although I've always wondered how it would be handled.

Nope -- I've always had that fear that somehow it won't credit the return, but we've probably rented at least 50 movies without any issues.

Hopefully it turns up and you don't have to "buy" a movie you no longer even have in your possession.

One time I returned the movie case without realizing that the movie wasn't actually in the case. Unfortunately, by the time I realized that I still had the DVD, it had already charged me for the price of the movie. Do you think that might have happened? Maybe check in your DVD player to see if you left it in there. :confused3

Did you wait to see the "Your item has been returned" or whatever it says on the screen? I once put the movie in backwards and it took a second but the screen said to reinsert the movie the correct way. Maybe you put it in wrong and then didn't see the notice and walked away??

I also get email notifications of the return. I always check for that when I get home.

Maggie

Hopefully you have your email information entered in their system for return confirmation -- you should have an email confirming it was returned.

As others have said, are you 100% certain you inserted the movie correctly, with the barcode label on top facing you? Did you stand there and watch the screen say it was returned and completed?

I once inserted a disc backwards once accidentally even though I knew how it was supposed to go and it spit it back out -- so if it spit your movie back out and you walked away, someone could have grabbed it.

If you don't have a confirmation email that it was returned...unfortunately I'm not sure what you can do; hopefully they will let it slide.

Definitely double-check that the correct movie isn't lying around somewhere in the house and you accidentally put a different movie in the case.

What measures do they have in place to handle disputed transactions and returns?

Do they have a number to call promptly if you don't get the confirmation email?

I never got into movie rental by mail because I never figured out how to handle items lost in the mail.

If all they can say is that you are responsible then you and everybody else should not do business with them.

This is one situation where dealing with humans in person is the best way to go.

When I had Netflix they were quite good about stuff being lost in the mail, they have a procedure, they know it happens, they never charged me for it. I presume if I'd claimed a movie a week was getting lost, there'd have been some other response.

This is a different situation - the OP rented from a physical box that dispenses movies. The OP stuck the movie back in the box but the box apparently didn't register that it was returned. That's not 'lost in the mail' as the person had to have physically placed the thing in the thing.

I agree with the 'maybe it was backwards' thing. I've only randomly used Redbox, the closest deal to me is a Blockbuster and it'll suck the things in any which way. The first time I did the Redbox I just stuck it in and only noticed it spit it back out at me because I was like 'wait, lemme make sure it took it' for reasons I dunno, as I don't really, with the Blockbuster. There was a decent delay before it spit the thing back at me.

I'd keep in contact with them, they may just write it off anyway.

I had this problem. I didn't realize I was suppose to get an email when they returned. It was my first time and it was during a power outage. That said....I called Redbox...their online help wasn't working. I did not find the person who answered the phone to be all that helpful, but after she put me on hold numerous times and then asked me to call back and I said no they were able to "return" the movies for me. They were then suppose to give me a refund of the extra days charges and didn't give enough. Luckily that time the online help worked and that was a less painful process.

Once when I returned 2 movies one didn't register as returned. I recieved the email for only one. When I called customer service they said it sometimes happens as the movie falls to the bottom of the machine. She said when the person who services the machine came out and found it.they would credit my account. It did take a few days as the do not service the machines every day. I did get a refund and a coupon for a free rental. easy peasy!!:)

I wouldn't worry they will figure it out.

I did have the email receipt confirmation setup. That is how I realized that the machine didnt work. I usually have the email confirmation by the time I get back to the car.

They found my disc. It was in the machine. I received the confirmation. They sent a techician out to the machine.

I had a woman on Twitter tell me that that very same thing happened to her and they charged her full retail price for the movies. That is why I never even attempted to use Red Box. I use Blockbuster store and Blockbuster by mail.

Never a problem. You just always have to wait until the returned notice on the screen. Like others have said...you could have forgot the dvd, or entered it into the machine wrong. I've come across a machine or two where the dvd was sticking out. The person before me didn't have the dvd inside correctly. I just fixed it and returned it to the machine. I can imagine where others take the opportunity for a free dvd.

I think most times it's customer error. Sorry.

You have to enter an email when you rent the movie so anyone returning should get an email. :)

I did have this happen once, there was a movie stuck in the machine and when I inserted my disc it returned the other one but not mine. I contacted them the next day to let them know I had returned the movie (they don't email you that they are charging you until a few days have passed by), a few days later they emailed me that they were charging me for the movie, I emailed them right back and told them I had emailed them when I tried to return the movie and attached the email I had sent originally, they credited me right away and it was not a problem at all. I've used Redbox countless times and that's only happened once.

I was once charged every day for a week for a movie that we had returned. I called and complained. The next time someone serviced the machine they found the movie inside and gave me credit. Of course, initially the rep on the phone told me it couldn't take my movie back without logging it into the system.

:cool1:

Glad it worked out! We have rented from RedBox at one airport, and then returned the movie at another airport! well, I should say DS does this - I was thinking about doing it next week, but since I havent used redbox -just the kids...

so thanks for the head's up!!

That happened to my sister before. She ended up having to pay for the movie. They told her if it turned up she would be credited for it, but she never was. She won't use Redbox any more.
