Day 1 We fly out of Chicago-Midway on the first flight of the morning (7:00) on a full plane, we sat in the last two rows and the kids got window seats on their first flight. Quicksilver picked met us promptly and we headed off for the Publix for snacks and drinks for the room. Arrived at AKL around 11:00 and headed off to check in, after a 5 minute wait we checked in (room already paid for) and found out we were upgraded from a standard room to Room 5124 on the Ostrich trail, a nice room with two queens. During our stay we were able to giraffes, ostrich, cattle, vultures, etc
out the balcony. The kids enjoyed it but I would have to say I wouldnt pay $70 a night more for that there are plenty of other viewing areas around the lodge. We settled in and headed of the the MK to exchange our F.I.T.S passes. The bus system at AKL was fine all week, no excessive waits and the furthest ride to the MK took only around 12 minutes. I can see how the observation of bus service varies from person to person like everything else we would sit down and enjoy a conversation waiting and even a 10 minute wait wouldnt seem bad, however, others would be there 5 minutes and wondering out loud what is taking the bus so long? Anyway, we got to guest relations at the MK and exchanged our vouchers with no problems headed into the MK to hit some of our favorite rides the People Mover TTA, Buzz and our first crack at Mickeys Philharmagic which lived up to expectations and was frequented by us many times. Back to the AKL to visit the Mara, get a Pizza to go to the room and call it an early night.
