Trendy? No

Just expected at any southern family get together along with the carrot cake, chocolate cake with tiny layers, and caramel cake.

I remember my grandmother putting in bottles of red dye. Her cake was never dry but the frosting was too sweet for me. The cocoa is used to cut the acidity of the buttermilk.

I can't imagine how many bottles of red dye #5 that she probably used in her lifetime.

The best RV cake I ever had was about a year ago when we were living in Texas. My DS was in the hospital at Medical Center of Plano and I got to stay with him in his room. I ordered a slice of RV cake with my dinner and "Oh my gosh!" was it the best I ever had. When I ordered my dinner the next day I told the lady in the hospital kitchen how great the cake was the night before and guess what? She sent me two more pieces with my dinner that night. Like I really needed that!

Who would have ever thought you could get really great RV cake in a hospital?
