Red Tide Warning!!

Just spoke to a friend who lives in Florida & he said they went to the coast yesterday (Clearwater area) & they have a bad situation down there of red tide - dead fish & fowl smelling, people cant go in the water because of bacteria! He said many familys were complaining & asking for money back.
Dont want to scare monger, but forwarned is forarmed, he said it has not even been mentioned in the news in Florida, & they seem to be trying to keep it quiet.
Maybe more could be found out by doing a search!

I had heard somthing about this, sooo sad, not just for myself, but because it is happening at all. I was looking forward to going and spending a day there as I have booked tickets for the Meat Loaf concert down there as a suprise for DB/DH. We'll still go down, but I doubbt it will be cleared up in two weeks

its to do with the seaweed when it goses into bloom it staves the sea of oxigen so fish die saw start of it 2 weeks ago its nature at work so nothing can be done

Does this happen at certain times of the year?
We are getting married on the beach at Clearwater next November (2006)
I know its a way off, but just wondered if this is a seasonal thing!

We were going to Clearwater for a couple of days over labor day weekend but I dont think we'll bother now. It looks lovely too
