Red pens are scary!

When I first saw this I thought it was about the new back to school commerical - I can't remember who it is for -
where a kid is trying to bring a note to a teacher and he looks really scared and when the teacher turns around his mouth is covered in red looks like blood, because he was chewing on his red pen

I used to use purple but it doesn't stand out as much. I had to switch to red last year. So far my students seem happy and well adjusted ;)

All my teachers, through all grades that I can remember, used red. I haven't turned into a serial killer, and my self esteem is just fine, thank you. I wish the hand wringers would stick to real causes and issues and quit worrying if something is going to offend 0.000000000001% of the population.

In the Middle School were I work all of the teachers use green markers. Those are the pens that they are given by the district for correcting papers. They have been doing this for years.

Now call me traditional, but doesn't green usually mean good, and correct? Marking with a green pen... well it just seems daft really, I imagine it would confuse the kids no end!

My 3rd grade DS twins sometimes grade their own papers in class (class review), and sometimes switch papers with classmates to grade. They always use red pens. It was on the class supply list this year:

2 red ball-point pens for correcting papers
