Does anyone know of a decent looking red lipstick? Everytime I buy red lipstick, if it's supposed to shine, it looks runny, if it's supposed to be a long stay, it'll stay on only in certain places, then my lips look splotchy, or it's a color that reminds me of something my grandmother used to wear and that's enough for me to not want to wear it.;)

Shannon, one good way to wear red is to put put some gloss on first, just a little and put the red on afterwards. It won't stay very long, but it looks less grandmaish.

Some people can wear red, I'm not one of them. I've found a few colors I can wear that's close though.

Before putting on the long staying ones. Make sure there is no dry skin on your lips. It will accentuate any that you have. Then make sure your lips are totally dry before applying. That should help with the splotchy look.

If you have a Merle Norman around you, go there and buy a tube of Lip Revive. Put it on a few minutes before you put on your lipstick. It helps to keep your lips soft and supple. Also, when using the long stay, some of them are kind of drying. Merle Norman makes a good one that I like called Red Earth. I also like the Revlon ones in the gold tube.

I love red lipsticks!

I love red lipstick - because people tell me how good I look in red but I haven't been able to find a decent one either in the last few years.

if done right, red lipstick is sexy

Try M.A.C. they have lots of different shades of red but try using a lip liner first to avoid it from feathering

I can't find a red lip color that looks good on me, but the ladies or men at MAC are always so helpful. I also would suggest heading to a MAC counter, they have such quality products.

What is MAC?

I never wear red. I feel like my lips arrive in the room before I do. LOL! I'm a pink, mauve, and peach person. :teeth:

I never, never, never wear red lipstick. It makes me look like a prostitute.

Jipsy, I'll try to see if I can find those at MN.:) Thanks.:)

PDXMULAN, I'm not sure what M.A.C. is either. Where would I find it?

Only certain reds look good on me, I have to be careful with that color because I'm so fair complexioned (is that a word?).

I can't wear really shiny lipsticks because of my ummm maturity.

I did get a gorgeous lipstick from Guerlain that stays on for hours. I just put a little gloss on top of it so it isn't so dry feeling. It cost $22, I think, but it does truly last for hours, even if I have a cup of coffee it stays put.

I love red lipstick it looks classically beautifull. People are afraid of it and thay dont have to be. Try MAC, any shade, and it tastes goodpuckerup:

There is a shade of red that will look smashing on just about everyone - it just takes some work to find the right one for you. :) Go to a cosmetics counter at a nice department store, and throw yourself on their mercy. They'll hook you up! :) (I recommend MAC as well, but it's not available everywhere.)

Personally, I'm a (naturally) golden blonde with VERY pale skin (always use the most fair or the very next shade in foundation), and I love MAC X-Treme. It's a perfect 1940's Hollywood cherry on me. But everyone is different.

I've never been able to find the perfect red lipstick either. I am a brunette with blue eyes and fair skin - every lipstick I find, it's either extremely bright red or orange and looks awful. I need help too

My suggestion is to try and find a deeper, sheer red. Try something closer to a light cranberry. You have to try on the colors too. Many lipsticks turn colors once they are on, and also in different lights.

Most of my colors have to be medium tones, and nothing bright. I have full lips and they would arrive before me.
I can't wear true pink either, it has to have a touch of tan and mauve to look right.
The lights of the store I work in washes color out so my makeup has to be a little more intense than I'm used to.

Oh yeah, I'm brunette with denim blue eye and light skin.
