Hey guys, so most of you know that there are plenty of videos on YouTube of the rides at Disney and I was just wondering, how do they record the videos without anyone saying anything? Does anyone know the rules for it or asking CM's about it?

On many rides you're not allowed but as long as the camera doesn't flash or have lighting it's easy to just do it. We have several of Splash Mtn, probably legally, and they came out fine. Haunted Mansion isn't worth the effort, the old Soarin' filmed surprisingly well, haven't done the new one yet. The ToT is kinda neat, RnR not worth it.

We have recorded the rides before (especially when our son was little to see his reaction to everything happening). CMs saw us recording (and that was back when you had to use a larger video camera, no iPhones yet!!) and no one ever said anything to us. We were respectful and only did it when it wouldn't affect anyone else's experience and made sure there wasn't any kind of camera light on. Everytime we go we see TONS of people recording on rides. I have never seen anyone ask a CM and they don't seem to care. We are actually planning to record a lot more than we normally do on our next trip - we would like more memories on film. You should be just fine as long as you are polite about recording.

As far as I know it's fine as long as you aren't using a flash or assist light, and aren't blocking the view of someone near you. Nowadays phones and many DSLRs do video so people aren't lugging around larger, more intrusive camcorders anymore, which I assume was probably more of an issue.

Recording the ride is perfectly fine. You just can't use a selfie-stick, tripod, etc, to do so. You also have to be cautious about any light coming from the camera itself or the screen, especially during dark rides.

Except when they tell you not to - then it's not fine. There's a reason, but some people are just too self-centered to believe it means them. Most CMs won't say not to because guests are so horrible when told they can't do something.

I would definitely check the rules with a CM before boarding if you do plan on recording... I remember a few trips back we were on Rockin' Roller coaster and I had my DSLR came set to record and was holding it closely against my chest with the screen off, no flash etc and we sat at the launch point for like 10 minutes. I couldn't figure out what was going on... then a CM came walking up to me and told me I had to turn my camera off. I was mortified to be the cause of the hold up. :o

Pretty much every ride allows for video recording. Many though do not allow flash photography. Disney also does not allow any sort of extension pole for your device such as a selfie stick.

I don't mind people who record on the slow(er) rides, but it terrify's me (and I'm surprised it's aloud) on the coasters. I can't help but worry that it might slip outta their hand and give me or someone else, a black eye, lol. I realize the chance of that happening is probably slim but, that doesn't make me any less scared.

But to answer your question, no regulations that I'm aware of. Just no selfie sticks.

I recorded Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad today with my iPhone with no issues (except that the beginning of BTMR is blurry because it's so dark). I was a bit worried about dropping my phone, but I was able to keep a solid grip on both rides.

Be mindful when recording of how bright your screen is. Sitting behind someone with a phone screen shining in one's eyes is not pleasant.

Almost any ride or attraction that is or has a movie element you are not allowed to film/tape um record :) so no Soaring, Ellen, Monsters Inc, etc.
