I am staying on site for the first time in Jan and was hpping you experts out there could give me some recommendation on the various restaurants in Disney. Not the parks but in the many hotel complexes. There are 3 of us going including DD5 so would have to be appropriate for her as well. If you could also let me know what price range its in that would be good as well, ie cheap, average, expensive, v expensive that would be a great help.

Thanks

I really liked the ESPN Club at the Boardwalk. Good food. Reasonable prices for Disney. I loved the atmosphere - lots going on. If you like sports this is a good choice. Um...if you don't like loud, it may not be the place for you. My mom found it to be loud.

I would NOT recommend the Big River Brewery at Boardwalk though. The food was blah. The service was good though and sitting on the boardwalk was nice. However, I think the blah food overwhelmed the service and setting.

Shula's in the Dolphin was nice, but I would not recommend taking a little one there.

That's all I have in the resorts. In the parks, I would recommend Crystal Palace. By far the best buffet we ate at on our trip! I know you said no parks, but I thought that I would throw that out there anyway.

I am going in January too! 1/21-1/27. I am excited to try Boma at AKL. That is the only place I am trying resort wise!

My fam loves Chef Mickey's (At the Contemporary) its right on the monorail line, so its convenient. Its a buffet. Everyone eats as much as they want of whatever they want. And Mickey and friends are there to meet everyone durring dinner. I think you'd love it. I paid about $25 pp inc soda or tea about 5 y ago. (would be less for 5y old)

I find most of our favorite meals are in resort restaurants.

For breakfast we like Chef Mickeys, Boma or Kona Cafe.

For lunch or dinner, Yachtsman Steakhouse, ESPN, Kona Cafe, Ohana(before the menu changes, I cant comment on them now), Palio, Beaches & Cream...I'm sure I will think of more.

We really liked Kona Cafe at the Polynesian for dinner. It's a moderately priced restaraunt. A little loud, because it opens into the lobby. The food is amazing, excellent service too. We all walked out of there STUFFED and very happy with our food. Very kid friendly too, even though at first glance it appears to be a "nicer" restaurant.

Since you will be traveling with a child, I would recommend Boma at the AKL (buffet, they have kids items as well as more exotic stuff for the grownups), Whispering Canyon at the WL (barbecue in an all-you-can-eat skillet, plus a regular menu--pony races and other fun stuff for the kids). For a special treat the Grand Floridian hosts an Alice-in-Wonderland themed tea that your DD might enjoy. Lots of people like Chef Mickeys (buffet wih characters) at the Contemporary but I have not been. allearsnet.com has complete menus for all the Disney restautants, you might want to take a look to help you narrow down your choices.

I would recommend Flying Fish - last year when we were talking about our plans, we had originally made PS for just me and DH. When DD5 found out that she wasn't going to get to go (she would be in a Kids Club) she expressed her disappointment. So I changed the PS to include her.

I think there is a list somewhere out there of things for kids to look for while at the restaurant. ie. roller coaster, balloons. Check allearsnet.com if you're interested.
