Okay, another question from someone who has never cruised with disney.

It would just be me and my husband for our anniversary on a seven day cruise. We wanted to know which room yall would recommend. We really like the ones with Verandahs but I don't know if we want to spend the money for one. Also which deck is good to be on?

I have already learned so much from everyone on this board. Thank you for all the great information. :)

Sorry, my recommendation is a verandah room. 7 days, very romantic. I would get one Deck 6 midship (we did). Cat. 6 is a better value than a 5 and you are still close to everything, restaurants, pools, shows, etc.

We would like one with a verandah but we didn't know if it was worth it or not. Did you like having a verandah?

I recommend a veranda as well. The view from your veranda is beautiful. Also you can order from room service and have breakfast or coffee in the morning. At the end of the evening, you can have a few moments out there to unwind after a long day. I would check rates for different months if you are flexible, I think Sept/Oct are less expensive. We always cruise this time of year and the weather is great. Also if you have not done so already, get a quote from Dreamsunlimited.com. We saved $1300 from what Disney quoted us. If money is an issue, there are category 7 rooms that have navigators veranda that are not fully open. If money isn't a huge issue, I definitely would do the category 6. It's your anniversary and you may want time alone, not in your room. Your private veranda is your excape. What ever room you choose, you will have a great time on the Magic.

We loved having the verandah. We had our DS6 who took a couple naps and we would be out there and read or relax and talk. We also had room service ordered and ate out there. Its fun to watch the docking procedures from the verandah and the mad dash people make at the end of the day. We got sit out there at night and listen to the water. You can also "explore" if you like. I was up one morning and watched the sun rise. Some will say you can do all that from the top decks, but there is something about having it right there and you can use it whenever you want. While others are showering you can sit and relax. Don't want to watch tv or anything and won't abandon the family while getting ready so its nice. We also got it for DW who is prone to motion sickness. She would be able to get fresh air in privacy. We will always get them from now on and if cost isn't an issue I would definitely do it. We have one for our Enchantment cruise in January and will be booking one when we return to DCL for the Western itinerary in January 2006.

So to make the answer short... yes we loved it.

You will find a wide range of opinions regarding verandahs.

For the average cruiser, they are pretty expensive compared to the amount of use they get out of them. So for every person that says they love them, there will be another person that says they are a waste of money.

If you can reasonably afford it, I'd suggest getting one and then you can make up your own mind.

Most people who have had a veranda love it and would never go to a non veranda room. There are many people that the veranda and rarely used it. I remember one poster who was pretty angry at the "veranda people" here on the DIS because they said it was a Must Have item. She rarely used it, and found it a great waste of money. For some its a necessity and others a nicety and for others a don't want it don't need it.

Haveing NEVER had a veranda (to much $$$ for us) I don't miss it. We started in a cat 11 room (4 nighter) and it really didn't bother us. We were very happy with this room. We then went with a cat 10 room - loved the split bath and the small amount of extra space (it was noticable). Then once we had one of the SPR (cat 10 but with an obstructed porthole) and we decided that we needed the natural light from outside. Ever since then we have sailed in a cat 9 room (deck2 with the BIG porthole). We still enjoy our cruises very much even though we have not had a veranda. THere are plenty of outside areas to rest and relax on (you just can't do it in your jammies:) ).

We've cruised in the summer time and frankly I couldn't stand to be outside for more than 10 minutes at a time unless I was in the pool. So during that time frame a veranda would be a waste of money. Now January is a different story. I probably would enjoy a veranda then.

We stayed on Deck 6, midship, interior room and loved it. Only used it for sleeping and dressing. We have two more cruises planned and we will be in interior rooms. Either way, you will have a great time!

If you can afford it, get it. If you have an excursion every day and do not spend very much time in your cabin, and question whether it is worth it or not, then don't. On our 7 day cruise, we probably spent a total of maybe 10 to 12 hours on our Verandah (When getting up in the morning, when docking in port, before retiring and DS6 already asleep, and during the day before dinner). We could not do without one now but have just become use to having one and would probably make ourselves not enjoy a cruise if we had an inside cabin. Whatever you decide, enjoy your cruise and if you opt for an inside cabin, make sure you have a working alarm clock or plan on using wake-up service as you will have no sunlight entering your room in the morning. - Mike
