I'd like to purchase a few items (shorts, tees/tanks) for days when we plan to ride the water rides on our next vacation. Historically I've just put up with wet clothing for a while... but I'm intrigued by the idea of maybe finding some items that are designed to dry quickly. I'd love suggestions (maybe even website links?) for tried-and-true quick-dry clothing that would be perfect for a day of water rides. TIA!!!

For low cost stuff, check out hanes & walmart websites

have purchased from Dicks sporting goods, Cabelas, REI, LLBean

DH likes speedo shirts, in store had them @ JCP last year

Where a poncho...last year when we were at Disney we rode Splash Mountain...first in the back row and we got hardly wet, then the next time my 9 yr old son was all macho and was like "I want to ride in the FRONT!" So I was like umm ok...well about half way through the ride he started freaking out bc he didn't want to get wet, bc we had reservations to Be Our Guest that night and he wanted to look his best for when he met the Beast, LOL...9 yr olds are super funny. Anyways just about that time the ride actually stopped and was stalled for about 10 minutes! Well in those 10 minutes I did have our book bag with us that had our ponchos in it in case of rain...so while the ride was stopped I took them out and we put the ponchos on and we stayed completely dry, LOL...everyone on the ride was laughing it was super funny. Seriously I think that was the best moment of our vacation, LOL

I usually wear my bathing suit top with a very light (gauze or cotton) shirt over it. They both dry very quickly in the heat of the day.

I read on the Universal website under tips that you can strip down to your bathing suit for the water rides. I personally wouldn't do that but I would wear a one piece bathing suit with dry fit shorts and remove my shirt for the rides. I actually found a really cheap pair at Five Below to wear over my bathing suit when we went river tubing the summer before last.

Not sure why that's in the website, I have seen it written there too, but TM will tell people to cover up if anyone tries to go on with just a costume on......we have seen it happen several times where folks have been told to put shorts and a top on.......

As for wear a poncho.........ponchos are not much use generally on Universal water rides......particularly Popeye Bilge Barges and Ripsaw Falls.........

Yea, for Popeye's raft ride...ponchos just kept our shirts kinda dry, we were still soaked. They did help quite a bit on Ripsaw Falls (my youngest hates getting splashed & he will only ride with a poncho) Our shoes were wet, but we wear sandals....not completely dry, but a lot drier than other people :)

Okay, I thought that was odd myself! Thanks for clarifying.

Isn't the point of water rides getting wet??

A whole group of us kept booing people who had ponchos on last year.........was funny......even they agreed it looked daft..........

Wouldn't wear a poncho, never had one .......might get booed......lol......

If you're going to do the quick-dry thing to wear all day....be sure to get quick dry all the way down to your underwear. Nothing's not-cuter than clothing that's dry but with big damp underpant and bra "imprints"!

so while the ride was stopped I took them out and we put the ponchos on and we stayed completely dry, LOL

Wow, impressive. Even with a poncho we generally get some sort of wet, even at Disney. They don't always cover legs, and if there's a splash UP it'll get the part you didn't think to cover.

Isn't the point of water rides getting wet??

Nope, not for all. For you, obviously. Not for me.

I like the feel of the splash, the cold of the water on me. Then I like getting off the ride, taking off my poncho, and being basically DRY. Chafing is no fun.

Just like The Hulk Coaster doesn't actually kill me no matter how much I think it's going to do so...the water rides don't *have to* get you drenched.

That's really sad. Please don't do that. It's not funny at all to me.

As an adult I can resist peer pressure, so I'll wear a poncho on any given day I wish to do so, no matter what others might think.

The boo'ing is reminding me of DH being jeered as he had to leave a ride because he didn't fit (at DCA). It was ugly ugly ugly.* And this is reminding me of it. I'm actually stunned right now.

*and part of his weight was and is caused by a then just-being-diagnosed pituitary tumor. The tumor creates prolactin (the milk hormone...men shouldn't have any of that), and prolactin increases emotions, and it just about destroyed him emotionally in that moment.

Bumber.......it was all done in fun. The people who were wearing ponchos had a sense of humour about it.....peer pressure has no issues here. Now where did I say YOU shouldn't wear a poncho.......

If you can't see that, then I can't change that. To compare that to your husband's issues with a joke about folks wearing ponchos is downright ridiculous. You can be stunned all you like........it's not the same.

I have been called fat all my life........doesn't bother me one iota......most of the time......but there's a huge difference between a joke and someone being malicious. If you want to make this an issue and make it about you then again, nothing I can do about that.

We were booed and jeered one year for walking to the front of the Jaws queue again and again and passing by the same people several times who had barely moved.......it was all done in fun and taken in fun......as it should have been.

Most people can find something to be offended about without really trying hard sometimes.

I'm not sure if you are looking for budget-friendly ideas or the best of the best reguardless of price...me personally, I go Wal*Mart :) In their womens' work out clothes area, you can find a lot of either spandex, wisk-away fabric, or plasticy-water resistant type stuff (I know, I'm not selling it well, but it's not as bad as I make it sound, I SWEAR!)

Anywho, I like Wal*Mart's moisture-away type clothes :)

A friend gave me a gift of a tee shirt and a hoody, purple of course from Walmart and it's quick dry.......it really is good.......I think I know what you mean.....but can't remember the name.......I would recommend that too......

Wow, thanks to everyone for your suggestions!!! I'm so glad I posted!!! I have some shopping to do. :rolleyes1

Have fun snoop.......shopping is always fun.....well, for me.......even though I claim not to be a shopper.........::yes::

personally i just toss a poncho for splash mountain and kali river rapids.
and then in addition for kali i'd toss on flip flops or water shoes.

if you really want to find clothing though i'd look for board shorts and any shirt thats made of scuba material.
its quick drying and at least in my case very figure flattering.

there's more to water rides than getting wet.
i love splash mountain but i love it for the storyline, the songs, the drops... i do not like walking around with soggy underwear all day.

Bumbershoot, lighten up and don't take it seriously.
it was not directed towards you at all.

many of us joke around here.

no one would ever know about your anxieties unless you mention them
you have friends here and we were not aware of your issues.
it was never intended to make you feel bad.
sorry you took it so hard.

let's get back on target of the purpose of this thread which is about what to wear on the water rides.

when i do water rides, i do them all in the same session.
i start with kwi dry top and bottoms and no undies.
wear sandals so i can walk back to my room without any socks rubbing the heal of the foot.

after i am done with the rides at IOA
then i can go back to the room and change into dry clothes and dry my hair.

(i know i can dry out quickly in the summer sun and heat but prefer to start over with a change of clothes )

i find the water rides not as crowded when they first open as most are doing the rides.
so even if it is not that warm, i hit water rides earlier than most others.
