I am looking for something affordable (like under $150) and dependable. I'd prefer the one unit with two screens that attach to the headrest of the car, but I'd also go for the individual units (I have two children). Target has one in their ad this week, but I read the reviews on-line and they were all negative. Apparantly, it's a piece of junk.

We have a couple of long car trips planned and I'd like to surprise my kids with a system (they've been asking for several years now!).

Any real-life recommendations would be great! Thanks!

I have had two different dvd players in the past 4-5 years. They were both kawasaki from Target. The first one was a 6.5 inch screen which I gave to my best friend for her family when I decided to upgrade to a bigger screen. I then purchased an 8.4 inch kawasaki one. They are both still working and have traveled on numerous trips and vacations with both families. We just decided to get a second dvd player in our family for our boys since they are not allowed to have tv in their room. I am going to try the $89 audiovox one from Target's bf ad. It's a 9 inch and the guys at Target said people seem pretty happy with the brand. I purchased it yesterday and they said I could bring my receipt in early on Friday and get the difference put back on my creditcard.

We just bought this Zenith model. I haven't had it long enough to feel comfortable recommending it however so far I like it. We bought it mainly for use on the plane so the feature of attaching it to the headrest wasn't as important a feature for us.

I like the swivel screen because we can flip it so the controls and buttons on behind the screen... great feature when you're using it for a 3yr old that loves to push buttons!

It has two headphone jacks and the picture is good quality. We also charged the battery and let it run thru a couple of DVD's to drain it so we could recharge it again for our trip this weekend and the battery ran for more than 3hrs - with the speakers on. OH and the speakers seem to pretty decent too. So overall it seems nice. I hope it lasts us. This one replaces our Initial brand one we bought several years ago that is still working but it only has a 4" screen which is why we wanted to upgrade.

Hth!

We bought 2 Panasonics because every time we read reviews on Amazon about cheaper ones, people complained about them. Things like: movies freezing during play, dead pixels, short battery life, not being able to play copied DVD's, etc.
We got our 1st on in 2003 and 2nd in 2004 and we still love them so much and quality of sound and picture is stunning. (We only use them for long car rides or plane rides.)
For us, it was worth the extra $.

we bought the ones on sale last year from radio shack they dont hold a charge and one wont even work so stick with a name brand and not a radio shack one

I need one that can read DIVX and copied DVD under 150$ which one is the best, my friend got one from Toshiba that sometimes skip to the next movie while reading DIVX (and we can't ff and rew in a DIVX) and when reading copied DVD it get to another chapter without even touching a button in the middle of the movie and we can't get back to where we left the movie.

Hi
I have a Polaroid portable DVD with a swivel screen. I really like it. The picture looks great and the sound is pretty good. I got it as a gift so I didn't really compare it to others. It has a rechargeable battery if you want to take it on the plane or you can plug it in with the adapter that it came with.

They all pretty good. We have a Venturer with a 7 inch screen. We are going to get another one for our trip next year. The one thing I sudjest is get them a good set of headphones so you don't have to listen to the movie or music which ever they decide to play. Good set meaning not the dollar store $1 set which fall apart. You can get a good enough pair for between 10 and 20 dollars. Good enough for kids anyways.
