Does anyone have any recommendations for Netbooks? I am thinking of getting one for my hubby's birthday in June but don't know much about them.

Any feedback good or bad will be greatly appreciated. :flower3:

I have an Advent that Dad bought me from PC World. I took it away on holiday with me and it was great. It's very light, fairly fast and quite cheap.

I think the Samsungs are supposed to be quite good as well.

Asus EEE were the first of their kind made at a price a lot lower than anything on the market. I have the 701 which was one of their first models, it uses Linux as an operating system.

I bought it primarily to use whilst away. It came preloaded with Skype also so I use that to phone home, it also has a sd card so I can post photos back home. However, memory and storage wise it is extremely basic but has what I need. You can also use Google Documents to prepare work as this is stored on the net so no need for a big hard drive on the computer.

I choose a Linux system as I didn't want to be bothered with viruses and be having to purchase virus software. There are hardly any Linux viruses out there compared to Windows.

It depends on what your hubbie wants from the machine as to which one he needs to get. There are a lot now out on the market now to choose from.

Mine doesn't have a cd drive and I am not sure if any of the others have basically it is just a machine to use the internet on for me. I love it, as it fits in to a normal (large) handbag so it is easy to take about.

I have a samsung NC10, and it's the best thing since sliced bread, is's no different to my full size laptop except half the size has double the memory and has no disk drive( have got an external one now!!)

ps it's faster too and my full size one is a Sony and only 18 months older than my netbook!

They reviewed Netbooks on the Gadget show last week and the Samsung came out on top due to it having a better keyboard, just beating an Acer (good battery life, poor mouse buttons) and an Asus (Poor battery life).

I have just bought my DD the Samsung NC10 after watching the Gadget Show and she loves it. It's a lovely pink one.:)

Thank you all for your info.

I have a while to look into it & may even end up telling him. I wanted to get it as a surprise but I think it maybe best to get his input on it.

I have an Acer One with Windows XP and I love it!!!

Great size and loads really quickly!!

I have NO complaints at all!!!! I love it! I even use it at home most of the time instead of my iMac!

They are so handy for taking away with you.

I just ordered the Pink Acer one with XP for taking away on holidays instead of taking my mac book.

Did you get a deal on it? I haven't had chance to shop around yet so don't know where the best prices are.

I'm using my son's Samsung netbook at the moment in bed at the Hard Rock Hotel - I absolutely love it!!! It's so light and easy to transport - not like having a laptop at all... I really recommend it - it's a funky dark blue colour too... :thumbsup2

I haven't picked one up yet, but so far I like the Lenovo IdeaPad S10. The display looks good, it has a nice keyboard, has gotten pretty good reviews and is easier to expand than some of them. The main negative I've seen is that the battery life isn't as good as some of the others. If you're looking to save a little, I see refurbished units sometimes popping up on the Lenovo Outlet site.

anyone got the dell one
was looking at that as it has a HDMI link

My boyfriend just got an Acer Aspire from Amazon last week - he's hardly put it down so must be good!

I think they look great for travelling - the only downside is not having a dvd drive. When I took my Mac away last year it was great to stick on a dvd to watch!
