Recommendations for front loading washers?

We purchased the LG WM2688HWM a couple months ago and are very happy with it so far. It's one of the priciest machines out there, but we looked to buy the top rated washer.

The real selling point for me was that it's a direct drive system - no belts. Very quiet and it spins very fast.

We als got the matching dryer even though it was not the top rated dryer. It did rate near the top so it's not a concern. And given how much water the washer spins out, drying isn't that much of a problem.
This is what I have too....and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it

You even tried to blame the sales person.

The ways to prevent and correct this stuff is right in the manual. In fact, I suspect the way to switch which way the door opens is in the manual as well.

Actually no. They can not be switched. My brother bought them for his old place where they faced each other and his new house has them side by side with the hookups opposite to how the doors open. He tried to switch them and was told he could not.

A dryer's door can be changes but not the washer's door (because of the seal). The OP was looking for recommendations and I merely wanted to point out that I have an LG and it sucks......but I guess I am just stupid and I don't know how to work it properly. Whatever.

I have Maytag Neptunes and love them. The clothes are basically dry when they come out. The whites are actually white. I also have the drying cabinet/dryer combination which you can't get anymore. :( It's a real-life saver on dry-cleaning.

LG's are awesome. They have been sold in other parts of the world for years and get good ratings there.

You do have to use HE detergent, and leave the door open to dry once in a while, but that's true with most front loaders.

Don't let folks who don't use theirs correctly scare you away from buying a brand or style.

Do you know for a fact people are using washing machines incorrectly? It seems as if you are making assumptions without anything to go on, not very nice. I think it would be best to keep on topic and not attack people. On that note, my future in-laws have a front loading LG washing machine and love theirs too. My only concern would be that if there were issues with one that the company would do right by fixing it.

We just bought a new front load washer and dryer on Saturday. Or maybe it was a space shuttle...it has the same number of lights and buttons, and the cost was about the same!

Anyway, after much hand ringing and head banging we chose a Samsung. They are apparently the only other brand, other than LG (which I just wasn't willing to spend the money on) that has the direct drive system. It also has a 5 point suspension system. Since the laundry room in our new house will be on the second floor by the bedrooms we were very concerned about noise and vibrations. We aren't having it delivered until we move to the new house in November so I will let you know how I like them in a few months.

If anyone else has the Samsung models I would love to hear your reviews.

Of course not, just going by what I read in many different places.

The fact is, that in many cases what people describe as a problem with front loaders is not only preventable if people read their manual, it's also correctable.

Our model came with the option for a remote monitor of all things. How big does a house have to be to make one of those make sense?

Bigger than ours, that's for sure.

Only one of my doors can be switched. (Dryer, I think.)

Believe me, I tried to avoid the way they're positioned and have to open. I considered switching one of the doors to the other side, but that would still leave one in the middle. So, what's the point? By keeping them together there's only one obstacle. Moving one door creates two obstacles.

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions! We ended up with the Whirlpool Duet. Didn't buy the pedestal because I just couldn't spend any more money on it. Found out the LG's from Home Depot couldn't be delivered for 10 days so that put them out of the running immediately because I have no functioning washer at all and don't want to go to the laundromat. The duet will be here tomorrow! Thanks again!
