Recommend your luggage

I bought us a set of Swiss Gear luggage about 4 years ago from TJ Maxx. I has held up so well. It's still in excellent condition with the exception of a small tear in a part of netting (mainly decoration) and some black marks courtesy of the baggage handlers. I just bought my DD a Heys hard side Tinkerbell suitcase for our upcoming trip so we'll see how long it lasts, lol.

Exactly what she said!! I find the best deals on luggage (look at their warranty and materials information..what they're made of) at TJMaxx or Marshall's...I spend about $50 per suitcase and ours have been to eight countries, numbers of states and still not problems!! Also, Tuesday Morning has some specials as well...

For our trip, we had rented DH a tux, I had a couple of cocktail dresses, and our dds took their Tiana costumes. I put my dresses and their costumes in the plastic dry-cleaning bags and had no wrinkle issues. I had packed them on top, basically folding into thirds to fit inside. It was great for us!

This is exactly what I have done also, no wrinkles! We own DH's tux, so we packed that the same way ... none of our clothing needed ironing. We did not need a special garment bag at all.

I bought 2 Timberland brand (well another company makes them for Timberland) duffles at TJMaxx today. They can stand on end and appear to be good quality. They are 32" and they were $79 each. The MSRP on the lable said $360 (yeah right).

Anyway, my question is this, will 2 of these be enough main luggage for 2 adults and 2 small kids (6 and 3)? We will each have one carry on as well.

Thanks for the advice.

Eric

I bought 6 pieces of luggage from Marshalls (Samsonite 4 wheel rollers) and 2 matching carry on bags from JCPenny and have had no problem with them so far. I pack a lot and have never had any problem maneuvering the 2 pieces of luggage through the airport at all.

We ahve the samsonite 4 wheels for my DH and I, and then our DD has a 4 wheeled Trunki that she rides and we pull her along behind us.

It helps to keep her from running off.

Glad to hear some of you have had luggage that has held up well on your DCL trips.

We joke about what they will do to our luggage next. We have had parts broken off, a big slash in the back, and the last time they did something that broke the zipper and we couldn't open it (luckily we were heading home, if we needed to stay at WDW longer we would have had to buy a new suitcase to get home).

So this year, since we had to throw away our largest suitcase from the last cruise, we just bought one at a yardsale. It was too hard to bring myself to buy something expensive and have DCL tear it up.

But on almost every cruise something happens to one of our pieces. Maybe our stuff is just not sturdy or we are just unlucky. But I just wanted to mention that if you are buying very nice stuff it may not look as nice when they are done.

Disney used to sell these really nice personalizable duffels. There are 4 of us. So, we have four of them....each with our own character and initials. We pack them, take on hanging bag, and that's it.

We drive, so we don't worry about airline issues with these things. Best part....we unpack in the cabin and roll up the bags....easy.

you can get a 6% rebate from ebates.com. I signed up for this based upon a recommendation from an Etsy seller last year, and it's amazing how quickly those rebates add up!

I would say PROBABLY is enough space but it would also depend on how many nights you're planning to pack for.:confused3 3, 4 or 7? Formal & Semi-formal nights? Any park days added before or after?? I will caution you that I don't pack more than a 30" duffle because it is WAAAY toooo easy to go over 50 Lbs. with anything larger than 28". I would suggest that you pick up a digital luggage scale. If you have a Bed, Bath & Beyond near you they have a very lightweight one with batteries included for like $20 - but if you have a 20% off or $5 off coupon only about $15-16. You can select pounds or Kilograms. I looked at one at Target but the scale itself weighed like a pound. That's not very practical IMO. But they're REALLLLLY worthwhile if you're flying. I relied heavily on ours for our trip to Europe / Med cruise. I was reallllly close on a couple of bags coming home & was so glad I knew when we got to the airport that I knew we had at least 1 pound to spare!:rotfl:

Thanks for all the info. I realize now I left out some crucial information that might have been useful. We live in San Diego and will drive to the port of LA the morning of our cruise, so no flying and bag weights to worry about. We'll be on the 7 night MR sailing.

Cheers
Eric

While I really like my LLBean rolling adventure duffle for travel.......these are actually my favorite pieces of luggage. Problem is they are too heavy, even empty, so you can't fill them or they are too heavy for flying.

You might want to check out MrRebates.com. They offer a 10% rebate on ebags.com. That's who I go through. I bought all of my packing cubes through them and not only got free shipping, but money back too!

And (the best part)- ebags will price match too! I found the packing cubes for less on another website, and gave them a call. They honored the lower price and refunded the difference!
