Recommend the Best Book

If you can stand medically gruesome stuff, I'd reccomend The Hot Zone by Richard Preston, but I warn you now that it's highly medically gruesome.

That's your disclaimer. :upsidedow

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
The whole series is amazing.
I also like The Mists of Avalon by Marian Zimmer Bradley

Wow - not sure I can narrow it down! :upsidedow
It would help to know why or for whom I would be recommending the book. Is it for you? What sort of books do you like?

I guess, me personally, the best books I have ever read are part of a series.
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon - Historical fiction set in Scotland and Pre-Revolutionary War America. Slight fantasy aspect with a bit of time travel. In order they are: Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, Fiery Cross, and a Breath of Snow and Ashes. Book 7 is in the works, and may be out this fall.

For lovers of historical mysteries, I also recommend the Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters. This is a long series. The first book or two aren't the best of the series, but must be read for plot and character development. They are fantastic after that.

Another vote here for Diana Gabaldon and the Outlander series.

But also...........

Austin's Pride and Prejudice.

The Kite Runner :thumbsup2
It's definitely one of the best I've read. It's hard to narrow it down to just one.

Geez, can you at least narrow down a genre? :rotfl2:

Historical romance/time travel: Outlander series
Fantasy: Lord of the Rings series
Horror: The Stand
Fiction/literature: Water for Elephants or The Time Traveler's Wife

I loved A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

hmmm, this is hard. Can't do just one:

Perfect by Judith McNaught
Keeping the Faith by Jodi Picoult
TimeTraveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

but I 4 the Outlander series--Jamie Fraser is the perfect man, if only he were real...

I can't pick just one...so I'll give you five! (well, four and one series, so eight in total)

Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Emma by Jane Austen
The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

Swan Song is another good one! It ranks right up there with The Stand.

The best book I've ever read (and my favorite) is To Kill a Mockingbird. I re-read it just about every year. Scout and Jem and Atticus seem like family to me and I like to visit them. ;)

Although I do agree with so many others that Diana Gabaldon's books are right up there on my list, too, along with Jane Eyre and so many other books.

I second The Time Traveler's Wife and The Mists of Avalon- those are definitely on my top ten list of all time favs.

Western--Lonesome Dove
Romance (modern)--Slow Heat in Heaven or Mirror Image by Sandra Brown
also love, love, love--Maggie's Child by Karen Robards
Historical Romance-Gone with the Wind or North and South

Also, I love the Harry Potter books. I know many adults laugh. Can't get my mom to read them although she reads all the time. But I really love them.

I might have stood in line at midnight once or, um, twice to buy the latest Potter book....

I love them too! Much better than the movies.

Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett

Angels and Demons - Dan Brown (liked it better than DaVinci Code).

Mistress in the Art of Death - Ariana Franklin

Timeline - Michael Crichton

Lucifer's Hammer - Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle

The Power of One - Bryce Courtenay

The Road - Cormac McCarthy
