Recommend some Places to Eat!

I cannot express how awesome Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen is enough. It knocked my non-foodie husband's socks off! He was so unexcited about eating there and then thought it was GREAT by the time the meal was over, lol.

Poor Pizza Port. It has its place, people! If I want a big ol' slice of pizza, it's always there for me, lol. Also the Chicken Fusilli is actually really good and my hubby gets that almost every time we eat there.

Ah it sounds delicious. Have you been to House of Blues to compare the 2? We're trying not to spend TOO much on food, so limiting our table service choices. But they both sound great!

Just to pipe in on the Jazz Kitchen / House of Blues comparison....do you have kids?
No kids = go to Jazz Kitchen....it's a little more adult in atmosphere and food, and the jazz musicians and some wine make for an amazing meal experience.
Kids = Go to House of Blues. Larger, more diverse menu with more kid-friendly choices. Louder, more upbeat environment.

Both are good, just depends on what experience you're after.

Earl of Sandwhich gets another vote from me they are SOOOO yummy!!! Also ESPN had pretty good food they have a game room that was fun too

I think it's worth it...they have really good, high quality food. Beef and turkey carving stations. They have many side dishes to choose from, my favorite being the sautéed green beans. Several different salads, which probably change seasonally, but I love the spinach and strawberry one! They have foods the kids will love, like mashed potatoes, pasta and mac & cheese...but all elevated in quality and fresh/hot. For desert, you get probably 1/2 dozen options, all small bite-sized, like petit fours...which is awesome because you can try a bunch since they are only a couple of bites each!

Sounds pretty good! Is there usually plenty of availability the day before or day of? Or should I commit to another ADR? I just don't want to overbook myself and regret it...

Another vote for the Fried Green Tomato sandwich at Hungry Bear! Super yummy and filling.

Also...consider the buffet for dinner at Storyteller's @ the Grand Californian....get a first seating @ 5pm...the food is fresh, piping hot, delicious and there is a HUGE variety. Easily one of the best buffets I've been to.
I love the meatloaf at Carnation Café...great homestyle food and the prices are really good compared to other TS places.

DTD...the Jazz Kitchen is amazing and House of Blues is fun. Tableside guacamole at Tortilla Jo's is a favorite of ours as well.

Everyone else has covered the snacks (more votes for the corn dogs, fried chicken @ Plaza Inn and a dole whip)...however; the beignets @ Jazz Kitchen Express in DTD are SO MUCH BETTER than the mickey beignets in DL.

Another vote for Hungry Bear!! That fried green tomato sandwich is great, and I get it with sweet potato fries which makes it even better!!! It's shady and breezy and a great break from the crowds, heat, and walking.

We were at Storytellers for the first time just a couple weeks ago and it was a big disappointment. We were there at 6pm for dinner and opted for the buffet. Don't think we will go there again. Great service though. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I'm a food snob though - dry chicken at a buffet and I am not impressed.

LOVE the beignets at Jazz Kitchen in DTD! Their coffee is decent (and huge) too, so we always do a breakfast (or two) there! Service can be iffy though.

Had good luck with Earl of Sandwich. Not so great with Tortilla Jo's...but I live in TX where we get great and easy Tex-Mex so if it's not great, it doesn't impress me

Even though this wasn't directed at me, i'll pipe in. I've been to both, both have a variety of flavors. House of blues seemed a bit more reasonably priced, or maybe we just went for the cheaper items there, I haven't looked at the menus recently, but Jazz Kitchen had live music when we were there, very upbeat as well. While it does give off a more adult vibe I guess, both are pretty adult, loud, and bustling. Neither would be a good option for a quiet romantic dinner, but they are pleasant, and have great food.

I usually book all of my TS meals ahead of time...but I would think you could probably do a walk in on this buffet with not too bad of a wait, depending on the time you go in and the size of your party...maybe 30 minutes at most? I've only done a walk-in on Storytellers for lunch a few years back with hubby and I, and we were seated right away...it's a pretty good sized restaurant.

Carnation Cafe and Cafe Orleans are both worth it. Both are good places to eat that are reasonably priced for DL. Plaza Inn, although its counter service kind of like a cafeteria, is a very good place to eat. The fried chicken there is fantastic. Also the strawberry shortcake is awesome.

We love catal in DTD. We always head there when we are getting sick of fried/sweet/theme park-y food and enjoy a high quality meal that feels healthier.

We are staying at the Grand this next trip so we will check out the Hearthstone and the Napa rose lounge too- both of which seem a step above in quality as well.

To chime in on Jazz Kitchen- we've taken kids there a few times and it's totally kid friendly. They have a kids menu and everything.

I think I was probably a little harsh. For the price, it's meh. But the food is decent quality given the volumes of people they have to serve every day. The chicken was definitely dry, the roast was tougher than I like (food snob ) but the corn chowder was quite nice, desserts were satisfying, the green beans were the only veggies I got seconds of so those were good! Kids reported that the mac n cheese, chicken fingers, and mashed potatoes were good. The fruit only looked OK and I didn't try the salads because they didn't look great to me. I think my expectations were high too since I had heard so much about Storytellers! And maybe I was grumpy then.

But the service was excellent. If you don't mind the price, it's a good place to rest tired feet and get a decent meal.

Whitewater Snacks in GCH is a quiet, quick counter service spot that is never crowded and has something on the menu for everyone. The prices are okay. I like the nachos. Hubby likes the burgers, and the kids like the chicken nuggets and individual pizzas.

Bengal ( I love the sauce )
Cafe Orleans ( 3 cheese and Pommes = major yum )

DCA

Paradise Gardens ( fresh, kinda healthy and very tasty )

You're definitely on track with BTRBBQ. That place is good. Pacific Wharf Cafe is really good with the bread bowls of chowder. Jazz Kitchen Express has really good beignets - not the best, but they're close enough to the real NO style to keep going back.

We're going in November for 3 days, and would love some ideas for where to eat- I tried Carthay Circle and Blue Bayou on my first visit to DLR and honestly thought they were overpriced and not that great.
Table service wise we want to do Big Thunder Ranch BBQ (haven't been, and with the rumor of it closing in January, figure this will be our only chance). I'm trying to decide if Carnation Cafe or Cafe Orleans is worth it.

We will do mostly quick service though- definitely Plaza inn and corn dogs (we like corn dog castle in DCA).

So what are your favorite places for lunch and dinner? We're trying to stick with the free breakfast at the motel we're staying at, so just 2 meals a day! (And snacks of course )

If you are going in November that is month (the only month) that Pacific Wharf in DCA has Chicken Pot Pie as their special. If you like chicken pot pie, you will LOVE it at Pacific Wharf. Its honestly the best meal you can get in either park any time of the year. It really is that good.

We currently have rezzies for Big Thunder Ranch BBQ (hubby and his BFF are VERY excited for messy BBQ!) and Blue Bayou. Though DH is upset that he wont be able to have the Monte Cristo (he is GF).

It is actually possible to get a gf monte cristo! I too am gf and really want to try it after hearing the rave reviews from gluten eaters I have an ADR for cafe orleans in october. You might find these threads interesting in regards to ordering the sandwich:
