I haven't been to the southeast portion of the US for a few years, but one of my favorite things of going is getting to eat at a "real" seafood restaurant. Can anyone recommend a place to check out for my family and myself as we are heading down the last week of this month. We are staying at Cypress Pointe, so anywhere within that area would be even better! TIA!

I also love seafood, but your post reminded me of something. We often go to Myrtle Beach, and the seafood is wonderful. Last April, while there we ate at a nice seafood restaurant right on the water where we could watch the fishing boats come in. We have eaten there every year with no problem. They are always busy, and the food always fresh and good. We ate there the second night of our vacation. I was the only one in our group who ordered oysters..... And by the time we got back to our hotel I was very very sick. And I do mean very, not just like stomach bug.In fact I was sick for the next 5 days. I had my husband, 3 kids, my daughters friend AND my mother in law with us on that trip. I really tried to have a good time, but I could not eat very much at all the entire time we were there. I had to stay close to a bathroom all week.I did remember 1 of the oysters tasting a little "different" and I know it can happen anywhere, so I would probably go back to that restaurant. It was a long time before I even ate any seafood again, and I will never eat another oyster.Just be careful, and if given a choice, eat at a "better" seafood restaurant. If something looks off color or smells fishy, do not eat it.I would not say that my vacation was totally ruined, but it sure did put a damper on it. On the bright side, I lost 8 pounds! :flower:

In my opinion, the WDW/Orlando area isn't great for seafood restaurants.

How do you define a "real" seafood restaurant?

Anything that is a step above Red Lobster and Shells, I would consider a real seafood restaurant, granted that is still not saying a lot.

Hehe, ok. I see what you mean.

I have heard good things about Bluezoo and Flying Fish.

Other than that, check out The Hurricane in pass-A-grill (St. Pete's) or Sharky's in Venice.

Long drives just for the fish though.

I love seafood and have found the best way to eat seafood is at a non-seafood restaurant. I think the corny nautical theme (ropes and ships wheels, etc adorning the walls are your first clue) usually don't have the best seafood. Going to California Grill or Emerils (a nice upscale restaurant) will usually be your best bet. Look up their menus on line and maybe give that a try.

Fulton's at Downtown Disney is good....

McCormick & Schmick at the Millenium Mall. Definitely a step above Red Lobster...

I think it depends on what kind of seafood you are looking for.

My family LOVES to go to Baltimore and Annapolis for GREAT crab. My young children even went ga-ga over it.

When we are in Myrtle beach, my mom loves to get steamed clams and we love a seafood buffet in Myrles Inlet(spelling?).

But when we are at WDW, there is only one kind of seafood that we really crave.........and that's salmon. I cannot imagine getting better salmon than what we had at Le Cellier's, but we haven't made it to Artist Point yet. :) I've also heard good things about Cal. Grill.

Orlando isn't like going to the waterfront, so it's kind of hard finding a seafood restaurant like those. But at least I can get my salmon fix. :teeth:

The salmon at Artists Point in absolutely INCREDIBLE. After I finished my meal DH was practically stabbing me to keep me away from his salmon. LOL!

I love the Alaskan King Crab legs at Fulton Crab House in Downtown Disney.
