I am interested in staying at Clearwater for a few days, but people have said it's kind of commercial and tacky now.

Can you all give me advice on another beach to stay at for 3 nights? I am still edging towards Clearwater but want to explore other options.

I've stayed at Cocoa, and am not interested in staying ther for 3 nights...

Kevin,

We liked Clearwater when we visited in 2002. I can see why people might say it's a bit tacky but I thought it was okay myself!

Having said that, if you don't mind a slightly longer drive then Siesta Key is a remarkable place. Just south of Sarasota, it is a "village" resort on the most amazing stretch of beach (wins awartds for being World's Best beach etc) and everything (including a good selection of bars, restaurant, shops and supermarket) is in walking distance if you stay in the village itself

Another vote for Siesta Key. Certainly worth researching. If you do a search on "Siesta Key" in google you will get loads of info

Kev - what are you looking for in your beach trip? It all depends on how far you want to travel, what kind of things you want to do while you're there.

Personally, we preferred St Pete Beach area much more than Clearwater. They both can be a little on the "touristy tacky" side, but we thought Clearwater definitely had the edge on that than St Pete.

There are some wonderful areas in between - Madeira Beach, Reddington Beach, Treasure Island - lovely little places on the drive down from Clearwater to St Pete. You can even choose a quieter area of St Pete - like up by St John's pass, the "bottom" end of St Pete Beach.

They are all lovely areas for a few days of R&R :sunny:

I've popped a reply on the other thread you responded to, too :flower:
