I have this soup mix that you are suppose to add 1 can chicken, 1 can diced tomatos, 1 cup milk, and 3 cups water.

I'm a low carber - think I could substitute cream for milk? Would it make a difference? How much cream should I put in?

Hi Amanda!

I am by no means any kind of expert, but I certainly would think that you could substitute cream for the milk. I would start with about 1/2 cup of cream instead of the 1 cup of milk. If the consistancy is not right, then you could add more water or cream depending on whether it needed to be more or less rich.

Actually this reminds me of a recipe that I have been wanting to try. It calls for a packet of dry vegetable soup mix, sour cream and chicken. I think that it sounds like a great low carb meal. I am going to have to give THAT a try. :)

Good Luck to you! :)

You could probably get by with skim milk or fat-free half & half. Many of the SBD recipes use FF half & half.

Hi Jerry!

You are right, if she is a South Beacher, then your suggestions would be the best substitutions.
But if she follows Atkins, then she wants to use the cream rather then anything else lower in fat.

I am not sure what program Amanda is following...

I'm a rebel I follow no plan ;)

Actually I am on the Protein Power Plan - I am allowed 30 carbs a day and I can get my carbs from anywhere. So far today I've consumed probably 5 to 6 carbs (it's been a bad day). Per the company www.homemadegourmet.com if I make the soup per recipie it is 7 carbs per 3/4 of a cup. Since I have plenty left over I'll be able to have a cup and a half of soup - so I'll be okay.

Was just wondering for future reference.

For those SBD I've noticed using the Fat free or skim actually adds more carbs but thanks for your suggestions.
