Hi I pulled a recipe from a magazine for salmon patties.
Well it calls for a sleeve of Ritz Crackers, here in Ontario, they just come in a huge package. So aprox. how many crackers would be in a sleeve?
Has anyone made Salmon Patties? Are they good? And what else would you serve them with?

I make them once in a while. Lea and Perrins, chopped onion, salt and pepper, an egg or two(depends on how much salmon) and Ritz -I use my rolling pin or a wine bottle to crush them and add until I get the desired consistancy so I can't be of much help about how many. Start with 12 to 16 if you have a small can or if you're using one of the bigger cans start with 20-24 crackers. Important to get your pan hot then add the oil, let it get hot them put the patties in right away. If the pan's not hot, it takes to long for the oil to heat and it gets brown and if the oil isn't hot, it soaks into the patties instead of making them crisp.

Served with parsley potatoes, stewed tomatoes, good frozen corn and some
good crusty bread.

I use 1 can of salmon, approx 15-18 saltine crackers, 1 egg, salt and pepper.
I always serve salmon patties w/ creamed peas.

I use the pouch salmon (for me, DH & DS3 we only use one); one sleeve (probably 25) saltine crackers, 1 egg, and miracle whip! That seems to make it less dry and a different flavor than most people have. My great-grandmother always made it that way, so that's how I do it too!

I usually make loaded mashed potatoes and either peas or turnip greens with it...depending on what the boys want (I eat neither of those!)

I use about 20 crushed wheat Ritz crackers for 2 pkgs of salmon. My mom always made salmon patties when I was growing up but it was one of those things where she never really had a recipe, just tossed things together. She gave me an approximation of what she used....one thing that really makes them moist is adding 2 tbs. of sour cream. Along with that I add 2 eggs and chopped onions. Mom always served them with blintzes, but until recently I wasn't able to find them down here in Louisiana so I served them with macaroni & cheese.

Oooo the mayo makes sense...I do use that in my crab cakes.

Now I'm hungry for Salmon patties.:)

Here is my mom's recipe & has no crackers so it does not dry out as much.

1 can salmon
1 egg
1/3c minced onion
1/2c flour
1 1/2 baking powder
2tbsp of juice from can

I have made it myself with fresh leftover salmon, onion, cheez-its, reg. crackers, etc..

It does not matter really. Put what flavors, crackers, etc. together and fry.:thumbsup2

I do love salmon patties. :thumbsup2 I'm so happy that DH likes them, too.

I usually use saltine crackers--about 10 - 15. It's hard to tell for sure because I add them a bit at a time until I get the right consistency. It's one of those things my parents used to drive me insane about--you add enough until it "feels right." :lmao:

This is what I had for dinner last night. For 1 can of salmon, I use 1 egg, 1 Tbsp flour, and just add saltines (crushed) until I get the right consistency, then I add the salmon back to it. I usually serve it with mac and cheese.

Suzanne

I use a can of salmon, diced onion, 1 egg, and italian flavored bread crumbs (about 1/2c, just add enough so the salmon patties:lmao:) I serve with sweet potato & whatever fresh veggies I have on hand. Enjoy!!!
