Recently Expired AP Renewal/Upgrade at Old Pricing

Our Deluxe APs expired on June 3 and we won’t be back in the parks until this Thanksgiving and then again in May 2013. With the recent price increases, I had decided that we would just purchase 5 day parkhoppers (so we wouldn’t have blockout days at Thanksgiving) and then upgrade to Deluxe APs during our first trip. The prices were high but still way less expensive than purchasing two sets of 5 day parkhoppers, plus we usually vacation at DLR for 7 days.

I kept seeing the recent posts where DisBoard members were saying they had seen the Premium pass cards for sale at last year’s prices in different California Von’s stores. The prices for these were just slightly more expensive than the Deluxe passes at the new price. I was really wishing I lived closer so that I could purchase them and upgrade us (no Thanksgiving blockout days to worry about) for about the same amount of money. I even kidded with DH about flying out to Cali just to buy them.

Although I thought it was a long shot, OK, I actually thought there was no way in all of Tomorrowland, but I called Disneyland’s AP renewal center earlier today to see if it was possible for me to renew at last year’s prices. They said that I could because I was still within the grace period. But what I really wanted to know……..was if I might possibly, pretty please with pixie dust on top, be able to upgrade to the Premium pass at the old prices. I still can’t believe that it’s true, but they said, “Yes!” Not only did they allow me to renew and then upgrade at the old pricing but they even gave me the $20 renewal discount, too. I was able to purchase Premium APs for $479 each.

If anyone else has posted about this, I have not seen it. I thought there might be other AP holders in a similar situation so I wanted to share this bit of good news in hopes that it might help out another Disney diehard. The number I called was 714-781-4567. Also, I had to call twice because I didn’t have my AP numbers the first time. The second CM told me that I had to upgrade at the ticket booth. I was persistent, explained what the first CM had told me, and then asked to speak to a supervisor. The CM put me on hold briefly and then processed my renewal/upgrade without any problems.:wizard:

Your expiration dates will stay the same, is it worth it to renew an AP that you aren't going to use for the first 5 months?

Yes, to us it is. We're only going to make three trips to the parks this year (we live on the Kansas/Oklahoma border) and all our trips will be before the passes expire. We won't be making any trips in the second half of 2013. If we look at the costs of the Premium APs at the old pricing compared to the 5 day parkhoppers at the new pricing, we are saving several hundred dollars.

So what is the grace period? Our AP's expire on July 25th...would I be looking at the new rates?

I'm not sure but it doesn't hurt to call and check. I know earlier this year there were several threads discussing the new pricing and AP renewals. Good luck!

Our passes expire on July 30th. I just renewed online at the old rates yesterday. I think I heard that you have until July 1st to upgrade before you have to pay the new rates. (But I'd do it sooner rather than later, just in case.)

Yes I have read this too. Ours expire on Aug.7 so June 29 is when I can upgrade at the old price and beat the July 1 deadline! But.....we are going to be in the park starting July 15, so what I'm wondering is, if we upgrade on June 29, will our new expirey date be June 29, or will it still be our old date Aug. 7? I would not want to lose out on weeks of the pass.

It will be your old date of August 7th. My friend's expires on August 7th and is going to the park on June 29th to renew. Even when you renew early, your expiration date stays the same.
