Recent reports of dining plan kinks with a segmented reservation?

Hey everyone - checking back in. So far all has been smooth, except what might be one minor hiccup....yesterday was our towel & trash day and we did not get service. Either they just missed us for some reason, or, it's due to the segmented reservation. I will be calling in just a few minutes to find out what happened and will report back.

Other than that, we still have the same keys as from check-in. Our next day with DDP is the 4th.

ETA - When I called housekeeping she said they would "look into why", so I'm not sure I'll ever find out why. If the same thing happens next week over at BLT, I'd surely place the blame on the segment. Housekeeping was very polite and said we'd be getting it today. :goodvibes:

Yes, I agree, the same thing did happen to us too in January. I never knew when we were going to get any housekeeping services. On day two we got a full cleaning and I think it's because they thought we were checking out. When we were suppose to get T&T we got it a day later than scheduled, but did get our last one on schedule from the 3rd one. I often leave a tip, and we just never knew when it was happening. Fortunately we were at OKW and when a full cleaning is going to happen, there is a basket of clean sheets outside your door, so we figured out the pattern. I can't wait to hear how you next level goes, because that's where we had the most problem. Most of our problems were with the TS. The CM would see that the card said DVC multiple and would have to have the manager call the resort to verify the level of dining we had. We were on the delux, so we got use to each TS meal being a pain. Good luck. I'm thinking of adding the QS DDP to the first day of my next trip (so I can get the mugs), so I'm hoping you can work out the bugs for us. After my last segmented trip that went bad, I did hestitate. We'll see.

Hi all! Posting from the BWV. On our arrival night, the 26th we had QSDP.

At check-in the CM was great, it was smooth, she understood the multiple plans. She did say we would have to get new keys each time we went on or off the plans.

So far everything has been perfectly smooth. We are now on no plan and have the DDP on the 4th, I expect we will need new keys then.

I'll keep ya posted!
THIS MAKES ME  I am sooo segmenting my Aug trip. (My Dec trip made me second guess it, so I am not really seg my May trip (just cut 1st and last day.) I am going with 1 DDP then nothing then DDP then nothing then throwing in a QS day for fun, and Earl of a sandwich!

Thanks for letting us know how things are going. I have a BCV/BWV split stay coming up soon that I just recently segmented (yeah!:woohoo:). The BWV portion is 8 nights so should include one full clean and one trash and towel. Due to the segments, I am expecting we may cause housekeeping some confusion. I am wondering if there is a way to "cut it off at the pass" so to speak and let housekeeping know ahead of time we are a continuing reservation, broken up into segments. I would hate to see them preparing to clean our villa every other day if there was something I could do to be proactive and alert them to our situation.

Please let us know how it works out...I will do the same after I return.

As always, :disrocks:

Your welcome!! :goodvibes

Tomorrow we start the basic DDP, we have it for just one night. Tonight we went to the front desk to check our current key cards, and to see if we could possibly get the new keys tonight instead of tomorrow morning before our breakfast ADR.

The CM told us our current keys, from check-in that had QSDP the first night on them, are good through check-out at BWV. :thumbsup2 However, the additional DDP that starts tomorrow are not on these current cards and she could not issue them until tomorrow AM.

I'll report back tomorrow sometime with the results of getting the new keys and how it goes at our first TS with the plan.

Thanks again for letting us know how things are going for you.
We are going in July to AKV for 8 nights and then 3 at BLT.
I'm still working on how we are going to split our dining. I'm currently looking into having the deluxe Dp the first night and get the cups and use those 3 dinners to include going to one of the dinner shows and then change to the regualr Dp for 5 nights, then another deluxe and the last one at Ak no dinning plan. Then at BLT the first night get the deluxe and the second night the regualr DP or the QS and the third night nothing. I will also provide information for people going after me.
Have fun!

It sounds like things are still working similarly as my trip in Dec 2010. I was keyed for all 3 nights upon check in, but my segment was no plan, plan, no plan so I had to get new keys the 2nd day. My Housekeeping schedule was messed up but my credits worked ok.

Having to get new keys would really make me rethink switching frequently between plans.

I understand you can keep your first key for your room, but now you will have 2 sets of keys to keep up with. I would just caution those that plan on segmenting their trip daily/frequently that as it stands, you will need new keys for each DDP segment.

Has anyone that checked on segmenting with MS recently been warned that
the same room could not be guaranteed. I was told twice by different CM's in the last week. This seems to defeat the purpose of the travel plans.

Enjoy the rest of your stay!

This morning we went down to get new keys before our breakfast ADR since we have the basic DDP for tonight only.

Apparently we didn't need them....despite being told that by several CMs. The credits were appearing on the current card but wouldn't be "active" until 11:00 am (check-out time/when their computer systems change over). So, they said at our breakfast to either have the server call the resort OR just charge it to the room and they will reverse it.

We had them charge it to the room.

I'm about to go down and get the charge reversed and all that. I'll report back on how it goes.

Okay, I'm back. :goodvibes

I went to the front desk and waited in line to have my charges revered only to be sent to Concierge. So keep that in mind should you find yourself in thus situation.

At concierge the CM was a tad on the rude side :sad2: but she revered the charge and confirmed that the remainder of our credits were on our cards. These are the same cards since check-in. :thumbsup2

In all the process has been easy, just the possible snag with housekeeping and the "not active" credits before 11 am, which gives you an extra step to deal with on breakfast ADRs.

We check out of the BWV and into BLT tomorrow and have the DxDDP one day during that stay as well. I'll keep updating on how it goes!

Thank you SO much for keeping us updated.

I think part of the reason you feel "all in all the process has been easy" is you knew ahead of time there might be snags & these bumps don't seem as bad as they could be & your personality. :flower3:

I think that is VERY true. I don't do well with the "unexpected" - so you nailed it! Plus, we have a long trip, so it's way more chill and relaxed, we are never in a rush, so stopping at the front desk isn't a hassle at all.

Wow! That's great to hear that they can actually assign times to the credits! They just need to work out the breakfast issue.

This would be great if you could check in, get 1 key for los, and your credits automatically post to your account on time. That would eliminate all the front desk time which is my least favorite part of any trip.

Thank you again for giving us the play by play. I agree, knowing is half the battle.:wizard:

Ditto, I don't do well with the "unexpected". Your experience is a great help for me, when I go... in 9 days!!

Because of your updates I will be prepared and know how to handle the situations. Thank you so much for your kindness and willingness to share.

Your welcome! :goodvibes I'm more than happy to share it all in hopes of helping someone else! The DIS is my "go to" for info, I glean so much from everyone else, gotta give back the love!

I asked them in an email about this & the response I received today was:
"Even though you have a segmented stay, all segments of your reservation
are booked under one travel plan. This travel plan format informs each
resort that this one continuous stay ensuring the same Vacation Home.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance."

I wish she had said room & not home! Kind of leaves it open to interpretation........

Hi - hope this is ok to post on this thread - I found it and didn't feel I should start a new one for my questions!!:goodvibes

We are taking friends for the first time next year and I am trying to figure out the most economical way for them to have character meals etc as their budget is quite tight.

I then came across the idea of segmenting our DVC bookings and thought about possibly adding one night on the DXDP, and use the 3 table service credits for our planned character meals and the refillable mugs.

We will be arriving late from the UK to BLT on Wed night, and as we have 4 small children between us, I can't guarantee we would be up to a table service meal that night. So I was thinking of doing the following - 1 night - no plan, 1 night DXDP & then 5 nights no plan, before transferring to AKV for 8 nights without any dining plans.

My questions are - Will the dining plan be activated first thing on the thursday? (We would plan to fit in two character breakfasts at Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace for first thing in the mornings on thur/fri - but I have read above that the plan may not be activated until 11am - is that a definite or will they allow an early reservation on the dining plan?) - actually I have just read a post I had missed!! - so I guess I just get the restaurant to ring the BLT front desk?? - hopefully that is quite straightforward!!

2nd question - I want this to be a magical trip for our friends, so if I have to get them to trek down to the front desk to add the ddp when they wake up on their 1st morning (before an early character breakfast) to change their room keys- I think it may not be the best start to their vacation!! Or have they sorted out those issues and its not really happening like that now?

3rd and final question (sorry for the long post!!;)) - Is it OK to have DXDP just for one night and then use the refillable mug for the duration of your stay?? - that sounds a bit too good to be true - so perhaps I have misunderstood that bit!!!:lmao:

Many thanks as usual for any info:lovestruc

#1 & 2 yes you would still have to go and get the new cards with the dinning plan on it the first full day of your trip. This is what we will also be doing. Are your guests staying in the same villa as you? If so them you could go down and get the KTTWC for the whole party. I plan to go to the front desk while the teenagers are "still" getting ready.:)

#3 As far as it is stated the mugs are good for the length of your stay while at the "resort you purchase it at" There are some definate questions about this line but I believe the majority believe that the mugs are intended to be used for the "current trip" since many DVCers switch resorts within a "trip" so I would say yes you can and should consider the mug good for your whole trip and yes it is a very good deal! I will run into a similar problem as I too have the Deluxe plan but "want" the new mug and will travel to the closest resort that has them if mine does not have the new ones on the shelf!

thanks so much for taking the time to reply:thumbsup2

We are going to be having two studios (my points don't quite stretch to the 2 bed MK view villa and I want them to have a MK view - so we are having a std studio and hopefully giving them the great view!!):goodvibes

I am wondering whether we just have the DXDP for the 1st night after all - as I think with all the children being together I think they could probably sit through a Chef Mickey Buffet dinner that first evening, even after a long flight I expect they will be lively with alll the excitement!!:):). If we do that then would we still need to get new KTTW cards the day after when the dining plan finishes or will there not be any need?

Great news about the refillable mugs - that is a fantastic deal - I just hope Disney don't cotton onto how good a deal it is before we go in Oct 2012 and change it!!!:lmao:

thanks again for all of your help:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I may be wrong but I think the mug is good for your "length of stay". Which may be governed by resort, reservation or on contiguios vacation stay on property. Disney has never made a formal statment as to what "length of stay" really means now.

I wish they would.

We appreciate your interest in a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resort. When you
segment a reservation, there is a chance that you may have to change
rooms. We cannot guarantee that you will remain in the same room for
the entire time. It will be up to the Front Desk to keep you in the
same room for your stay.
