I felt exactly the same as you after our last WDW trip. I did the college program at WDW and always wondered what the deal was with so many parents being short with their kids in the happiest place on earth. Having gone with a 3 year old, I now understand. It's hot and there's so much going on. The kids get exhausted so easily. Plus, it's much harder to relax at the pool or sleep in with a small child. So the parents get exhausted too. I confess that I snapped at my son at one point (and had to remind myself to chill out on multiple occasions).
I much preferred the more laid back and relaxing atmosphere of our DCL trip. It is the only family vacation we have gone on where there was zero crankiness by anyone.
My DH and I agreed no WDW until my son is old enough to understand that he needs to either sleep in or nap if he is overtired.
