recent negative food comments

They aren't a PA food. They are Chinese. Check your local Chinese restaurant's appetizer list. They will surely be on there. Give them a try next time you go out. They are very similar to the dumplings in Wonton soup.

We sailed the "Magic" in August, 1998 when Disney had just entered the cruise market. The food was the weak link.
That said, Disney did what Disney does best - they listened to the guests and fine-tuned perfectly. The food has improved each time we have cruised.

We have since cruised the Wonder 4-night last August and just returned yesterday from the Western Magic itinerary.

We find the dining options to be tailored to just about every guest. If for some reason you don't like what you ordered, the servers are only too happy to bring another choice. We liked every dining experience we had - with Palo's the leader of the pack.

I think Invaderzim summed it up beautifully.

The food is just one facet of your journey. The ships alone are worth cruinsing with Disney than other cruise line. The detail and beauty of the ships is unique in the industry.

As far as the beds are concerned, we had a matress on our
August, 2003 cruise that was a little uncomfortable. The room manager happend to knock the second evening to see if we needed anything. We did not complain - only mentioned the mattress - next thing we knew the matress was replaced.

Disney Cruise Lines and their cast members WANT everything to be perfect and magical. All you have to do is ask.

We have cruised several other lines. I can't imagine cruising with anyone else but Disney. We are loyal converts.

There is Magic on the ships and they do leave you in awe and Wonder. Needless to say we endorse Disney Cruise Lines:love:

Go for it and ENJOY!!!!!

OK now I know why they came into our cabin last August, took our perfectly good mattress and gave us the lumpy one!!!!!!!!
Never could understand why the did that. NOW I know :)

Deebs, are you talking about Roland from Norway ? He was one of our servers in October and he was wonderful. Charming, and could not do enough for us.

The main thing that I agree with a lot of people here about is that on the cruise, your server is very enthusiastic about pleasing you. So if the food isn't to your liking, you can request a different entree or even a "new and improved" entree (if it needs to be heated, etc.). I personally have only had 2 incidents and it's a stretch to call them "incidents", (1) There was a long black hair in my Alfredo - no problem, ordered a new entree (NOT Alfredo) and the server was very happy to oblige, (2) On our latest cruise my lobster was very, very tough (my family's dinners were perfect) - once again, no big deal. You will find that the servers are very sympathetic to your needs; you are pampered and spoiled. The food overall was good - I wouldn't call it great, but I didn't have to prepare it and clean up afterward so I would lift it up a notch just on that. I wouldn't compare it even close to some of the better establishments at WDW like Flying Fish or California Grill, but I would compare it better than an Olive Garden. I'm confident you'll have a very good experience, too.

We definantly aren't food snobs but I am a pretty picky eater. I enjoyed most of the food that we had on the 11/15/03 Eastern. The deserts were devine...especially the last night onboard!!! Of course I am going to enjoy being served my meals and not having to cook or clean up. I definantly don't cook like that myself and we don't go out to eat much...not much around here that is very fancy to begin with. The day I was stuffed from High Tea our server was very concerned that I didn't like my entree & wanted to bring me something else. I had to tell him that I wasn't going to be able to eat anything that night.

PLEASE, make sure that you not only put on your
comment cards ANY concerns during your trip about
the dining (or any part of your trip)!!!

BUT, make sure that you take the time and let
the HEAD STAFF in the dining rooms aware AND
to make sure to PUT IT IN WRITING at the Guest
Services desk.

AND!!! I know it seems like alot, BUT, you need
to WRITE to DCL, Guest Communications,
P.O. Box 10238, Lake Buena Vista, Fl, 32830-0238
Email: dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com

It is SOOOOOOO Important to voice your opinion
especially in the dining and food category, it
is the only way to make them aware and hopefully
for them to change it. Same with service!! Really
any part from the service to food or any part of
your cruise experience with DCL!!!

The quality and standards need to stay up there,
they have alot of competition out there......

So LET THEM KNOW!!!

Dana :)

I can't quite answer the original question because I am still reeling from anyone saying that they don't like any of the food at WDW!! What, aren't there like 200 restaurants! Have they eaten a selection of meals at most of them? Of course not, but they actually will say negative things about the food at WDW overall.

I think the word that comes to mind is ignorant -- making comments when you don't have adequate information on which to make a statement. "Our family ate at X restaurant and none of us liked our meal." Fine. Factual statement based on your opinion, no problem. However, anything along the lines of "we think that the food at WDW is terrible" is just absurd. Have you eaten at Flying Fish, Shula's, Alfredo's, Le Cellier, Artist Pointe, Boma, Victoria and Albert's, Chefs de France, San Angel Inn.....I could go on and on. There are nationally and internationally known chefs who prepare meals at these restaurants, and while I haven't loved every meal, I realize that it is a matter of my opinion and not poor quality of food! Eating counter service at MK and getting tired of chicken fingers does not compute to all food at WDW being bad. Puhleeze!

Okay, I am better now. I guess my first thought about any problems with food on DCL comes back to one of our primary reasons for cruising with Disney. I am continually amazed at the level of customer service, and how hard the majority of CM's work to make sure that you are happy. My experience would suggest that if you do not like something about your meal that the staff will do all they can to make you happy. There are obvious limitations to the meal offerings because of the number of guests who must be served and the requirements of a set menu. However, we were very pleased with our meals on our previous cruise and look forward to more of the same on our cruise later this week. :teeth:

FYI~

I was told by our server if you rate the food in their section of the survey card poorly it counts against them! The theory is that they should be recommending items to your party that everyone will like... It's not like they cook the food too, so it's not fair...

They use a scan tron machine, so if you didn't love the food, but really liked your server it's best to leave the food questions blank in that section & write in your comments in the end about the food.

Hey, what's with the name calling? It's a matter of opinion. To call people that do not share your opinion ignorant, is well .........

They've had bad meals at the Disney restaurants that they have visited and they are posting about those experiences.

I have eaten at most of the WDW and DL restaurants and I have not been back for seconds at most of them. More often than not I have been served food that, in my opinion, was not prepared well. Over done, under done, held to long, under spiced, over sauced, stale, cold, you name it and it's hit my table. After all my visits I can't help but think that all those bad meals are just a coincidence.

Disney is our favorite vacation destination and we go often. I'm sure there are things on the ships, in the resorts and at the parks that we absolutely love and that other people don't. That's perfectly OK by me. To each his own.

If you like the food, post about what you like. If you don't like it, post about that too. Everyone's opinion counts here and they shouldn't be berated for them. JMHO :teeth:

Sorry if you did not read the posts to which I was referring, nor apparently MY post. I clearly stated that someone who related their personal opinion of a meal or restaurant seems perfectly fine. Saying that all food at WDW is bad is ridiculous. It has NOTHING to do with someone's OPINION, it has to do with painting a very broad brush to say that all of the food at WDW is bad.

It is not "name calling" to say that someone should not state something as fact when they are ignorant of the full facts. Unless they, as you state you have, have eaten at "most of the WDW and DL restaurants" (wow, you must have spents months at the Disney complexes to have eaten at most of the restaurants there! Did you really not care for Jiko or Boma? Le Cellier or San Angel Inn? Chefs de France or Teppenyaki? Yachtman's Steak House or Shula's? Victoria and Albert's or O'hana? Artist Point or Whispering Canyon? Flying Fish or Alfredo's? You've eaten at most of these and been unhappy? Again, wow. Even though I have only been 10 or 11 times and eaten out as much as possible, I still have several restaurants to try. I have been fortunate enough to be pleased with the vast majority of my meals -- perhaps not too impressed with meals at Pecos Bill's or grabbing a turkey leg, but have experienced some wonderful gourmet meals.)

Yes FredS, I have been to all the restaurants you mentioned and, with the exception of Shula's, I will never go back. It's not too hard to make the rounds at the WDW restaurants when you don't revisit the ones you don't like. In my informed opinion, Disney could do A LOT better on food. ::yes::

I just wanted to thank the people who replied to my "YIKES" post a few pages back. I was reassured by your replies and am back to planning for the DCL cruise. We will go in with a realistic expectations. My husband started out in catering as a banquet chef and I as a corporate Meeting planner so we both understand that food served to 100's of people will not be the same as most fine restaurants. however we would expect greater variety and quality then your typical chain restaurant. From the posts it sounds like we will be okay. Besides I think we will start with the 4 day cruise and we know a great restaurant in Nassua for lunch!!!!

I still think the food quality in WDW is pretty good and you really can't beat the variety available. Where else can you have a traditional American Breakfast, Norwegian Buffett for Lunch and Dinner at a Japanesse Sushi Bar!!!

But if that is the case how come some people say that food on cruises is simply the "best"

Again,I guess it depends on who is giving the revue.

I have to agree with that one! We went on our first cruise years ago....it was RCCL. People that previously went on it, RAVED so much about the food, etc. We were not disappointed, in the food, just our opinion was different. Yes, there was a ton of food....but nothing was 'the best meal we ever had in our life." Both my hubby and I thought the same thing.
So, it really is a personal thing, go into with whatever expectation you want...but I wouldn't expect the "end all, die all" of meals.....and maybe you will be pleasantly surprised! It is just a matter of approach and opinion!
(another example...non-cruise related. having read these boards raving about the buffet in Norway...we couldn't wait to try it. Once again, it was ok....but definitely not what we thought from all the rave reviews on the DIS. Different strokes for different folks!)
