I am taking my mother for a very special memorial day weekend trip to WDW in May (my Dad, her husband, passed away last month and it is her first vacation in a very long time). She reviewed menus and selected Les Chefs de Franch based on the menu, for our night at Epcot.

I would really appreciate hearing from any of you who have had recent experiences there. I don't want to go if the general consensus is "poor food." Overall, I am more concerned about quality of food than I am about service.

Thanks.

I went last sept. It was "ok"... nothing great for the price. The creme brule' was super.. other than that I was disappointed, sorry to say. I've heard wonderful things about the restaurant in Canada.. les cellier.. I was disappointed I didn't go here instead.

Just reread your post.. you know what? If your mom picked this place based on the menu it really wasn't "awful".. actually the rolls were good.. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. If your mom picked it.. please do go!

My husband & I have eaten there several times. We prefer lunch to dinner. We like the atmosphere & the service has always been good. Everything we have had to eat has been very good.

I eat at Les Chefs de France on every trip, and I love it! I also much prefer lunch to dinner. I think the food is good, and the waitstaff is generally very friendly and fun. I hope you enjoy your meal!

For those of you who say you prefer lunch to dinner - is there any reason other than price why you prefer lunch? We are on the dining plan, so I am not concerned about the price difference.

I prefer lunch to dinner for the following reasons:
1. I usually eat right when the restaurant opens, so it is not crowded, I get a lovely seat by the window and the waitstaff has not had time to become rushed and frazzled.
2. I prefer the lunch menu. The French menu at lunch with the french onion soup, ham and cheese sandwich and creme brulee has to be one of the best values in the World.
3. The dining room looks spectacular in the bright sunlight
4. It is easier to people watch through the windows during the day
5. I travel during the summer so by noon I am ready to have a leisurely meal in the air conditioning

I generally find that all of the World Showcase restaurants are more pleasant for lunch. That "get 'em in get 'em out" attitude seems to develop the later in the day it gets. Hope this helps!

and enjoyed a girls lunch there on Thursday. Diners were myself, DD10 (DD8 went to MK with Dad and had popcorn for lunch :( ) and two older ladies, early 50's and maybe late 50's to early 60's. We had an ADR at noon and were seated promptly at a window table. Our server was a very nice young man named Michel. After perusing the kids menu thoroughly, Michel asked Kelly (DD10) if she'd rather order from the regular menu. She loves french onion soup, so I ordered the french menu for her. He advised that the portions were large, so I simply ordered lobster bisque. THe two ladies each ordered the french onion soup , one ordered the quiche and the other the crepe with chicken and onions. Soups arrived first, portions are very large. None of us finished our soup. Rolls were crusty and served with butter. THe entrees are very large. Our sandwich was a whole sandwich, served with a portion of salad with vinegrette, the lady with the quiche had a portion about the size of a frozen pot pie, also with salad. The crepe easily filled the plate. None of us finished our entrees, I think Kelly an I left half of the sandwich and salad, she ate all but about 1.5inches of her soup, mine was about the same. The ladies picked at their entrees, having filled up on soup and bread. We all shared the creme brulee from the french menu, leaving some on the plate. Our server was attentive without hovering, bringing refills of our drinks promptly and removing dishes as we finished courses. This was my first experience there, and Kelly and I agreed that it was quite good. Unfortunately I don't think we will eat there again as a family because DH and DD8 would turn their noses up at the menu. If your mom really shows an interest in it I'd say go for it. The dinner menu also shows a fixed price menu similar to the lunch one. I'd also advise dining early as whenever we walk that way in the evening there always appears to be a crowd hovering outside. Enjoy!

I went about 3 years ago, but I found it to be a very special place. It seems very removed from the parks, very bright and airy and had great food. I had the French onion soup and a salad and it was lovely. They had a great wine selction. My friend had the lobster bisque and I tasted hers and it was awesome. I would definitely go again. I'm trying Bistro de Paris this time, or else I would be!

We went there for dinner in Jan. I had the following...
Tarte a la flamme Alsacienne - Alsace specialty. Flat bread baked with cream fraiche, onion and bacon- that gets a HUGE thumbs up from me! :)
DH had the cheese platter- it was, well, cheese. :lmao:

Filet de boeuf grille, sauce au poivre noir Gratin Dauphinois et haricots verts - Grilled tenderloin of beef with a black pepper sauce, Savoy potato gratin and green beans- we both had this for dinner- it was good, nothing to write home about.

I had the creme brulee, honestly, I've had better. DH had the "Happiest Celebration on Earth Dessert"- again good, but not phenominal.

The service was okay- we joked that we had an authentic French meal- rude waiter and all. ;) It wasn't that bad- more of a language barrier/cultural thing. He did steer us away from the French Menu- assuring us there were much better things on the menu. And we weren't disappointed in following his suggestion.

This restaurant has the best food inside a theme park at WDW. The service, as Mellie mentioned, is often "authentic French" but true to French form, the food is almost a religious experience.

Wow! I am really encouraged... Thank you for the responses. Anyone else been there recently? I am getting excited about out trip. I'm thinking about food constantly thanks to these boards. I am also taking my mom to Boma (my personal favorite) and the Yachstman Steakhouse (we are staying at Beach Club so that will be convenient, and my mom loves steak).

We ate there for the first time on our trip over spring break (March 25-31). It was one of our best meals and we are definitely going back.

We ate at 5:30 pm for dinner so it was still light out. The atmosphere is beautiful, light, and relaxing. There are windows surrounding the restaurant so it is fun to people watch. The french onion soup was delicious, and the filet mignon was very good. I had a delicous dessert, although I can't remember now which one. My kids (7 and 4) liked the bread, they ordered off of the childrens menu.

All in all, it tied with Boma as our favorite of all the restaurants we ate at.

we plan on going in june and we have adr for it because my In laws picked it ... but they picked it only because they wanted the snails I just want to make sure they are still on the menu?

Yes - I see it listed at both lunch and dinner, so you should be fine. :)

That's one menu item I doubt they'd ever remove from the menu.

We are also planning on trying this restaurant for the first time in June at the request of my dds since they take French in school, they thought it would be fun. This may sound like a stupid question but here goes anyway...what do snails taste like? And please don't say chicken :rotfl2:

Those snails taste like butter and garlic. :rotfl:

What's good for dinner there? Like others, I've only eaten lunch there, gotten the cheese sandwich special, but I'm going there for dinner in September. So what's good?

We loved this restaurant! The food was great and our waiter was new to the states. He was polite and spoke broken english but I speak french so that helped. Anywa, he was friendly and delightful! The food was better than anticipated. The restaurant was a bit loud but that just reminded me of the actual french bistros that I have been too. The french are talkers and things get loud! So it felt a bit more authentic to me.

Have a great time!
