I read here that on a recent crise there were plumbing problems on deck 8 on the 8500 side. Does anyone on the last few cruises know if this was fixed. Complaints of sewage smell and pipes being ripped up. We are cruising June 26 and would hate to enjoy that the entire cruise.

Some fellow Diser's were in the Roy Disney suite on May 15 & there was some water damage. They had fans running in one of the bedrooms I beleive to dry the carpet. While we were waiting to board at PC, I noticed them loading rolls of carpet onto the ship.

I don't think it was a major inconvience to anyone, so you will have a fantastic cruise!!

Any idea if they got the smell out of the room. We are staying in the Roy suite.

Hi Beth I can't imagine that they wouldn't have fixed this problem and replaced the carpets pronto, the problem was 2 to 3 weeks ago and nothings been written about it since, have a fantastic time

The people staying in the Roy suite said there was no smell in the room, just damp carpets. We were in 8564 and the sewage smell was more in the area where the midship elevators are. they were working constantly on the pipes across from us (no real noise that bothered us, but we saw them welding several times.)

We were on the 5/15 cruise and I did smell a sewer like smell outside of the kids clubs for the first few days. I did not smell it later in the cruise, though so it must have been fixed.

Not to be smart, but I suspect a sewage leak causes the sewage smell.

No Its more than that. Our odor was coming from the bathtub, it was awful, I had to put towels under the door to prevent the odor from coming in the stateroom.

Just to give you an idea of how quickly Disney acts to correct a problem.....

On our cruise in November 2002, when we got to our room, it reeked of cigarette smoke. We complained to the Room Steward and she says that comes from people smoking on the balcony and the smoke blowing back in the room. She said to just give her a couple of hours and she and her manager would fix the problem. Well, we went to the pool, got lunch and when we came back, the room smelled wonderful. I don't know what they did, but we never smelled anything else the rest of the cruise.

As for the "sewage" smells, that happens on any ship. We had it last time for a day during rough seas. We asked the CM about it and they said that sometimes during a "bouncy" episode, the gases come back up and you might get an odor. We never had raw sewage or anything like that come up the pipes, just an odor. It went away in a day. We just kept sliding door open on the balcony and sprayed a little room freshner.

We had a category 9 so we couldn't get fresh air. The cast members were putting all kinds of chemicals in the drain. After a day of odors we found that all the aft public bathrooms were closed, so there was definitely some sort of problem. Never heard of anyone having a problem in a SPR, so I feel OK this time.

I have a great example of how fast Disney works to correct a problem. This has nothing to do with a sewerage problem. We stayed in 8528 in April. There was this constant woodpecker type tapping that I noticed at night when I was trying to sleep. I didn't notice it during the day because, well, I was never in the room! Anyhow, I reported it and that first night, they seemed to think it was coming from the pull-down bed in the ceiling so they tried to put in pieces of wood between where the ceiling met the bed. Well, it didn't work. So, they called and scheduled a "complete take down of the ceiling" for the next day at 9am. They wanted to make sure that we were not inconvienenced. I thought that was very nice. Needless to say, they fixed the problem. They even called to make sure that all was alright with the room and to please report any further problems. I was VERY impressed with the response. They even offered to put us up in an open room for the night so that we wouldn't have to listen to the noise. Superior service in my mind.

Wow!!!!! I heard the same noise in our room!!! (8564) It drove me so crazy one night that my husband went to guest services and the head of maintenance came back to the room and said it was a combination of the creeking of the boat/ceiling tiles and the wood molding. It said it happens when the ship rocks a certain way. I didn't hear it for the first few nights, then it started around the third or fourth night. drove me batty. sounded like rain hitting the ceiling tiles or something.

I stayed in the Roy suite for the cruise that had the water damage. There was never a smell at all...just a little dampness in the carpet in the master bedroom. They offered to put in all new carpeting but it had dried by the second day and we told them to just wait until we left.

I had heard others on deck 8 mention an odor but it was not an issue in the Roy at all!!

Brett-did you find the Roy suite in good shape? How was the concierge service? Can't believe they wanted to replace the whole carpet!!

Roy suite was is great shape. Concierge service was excellent. Sent you a PM with more details.

Lynn---I told you my dh and I would keep it down next time!! No need to call maintenance. LOL!!! Just kidding. Roy Suite was perfect for our cruise. Does it seem like forever since we were there!

We had the gagging sewage smell on our May 1 cruise and it was terrible!!! Only in our room not the kids in the room next door but we had to shut the door in the "bathtub" room and use the kids room!! 2 days before that we found out through trial and error that the hot water was the only water working and that the cold water seemed to disappear from our rooms. The water was blistering hot. We called maintenance and 10 min later they called us to tell us it was all fixed. (nice touch too bad it wasn't true) so we ran the water and it was cool for about 10 seconds and then blistering hot again. Called maintenance again and they said they'd look into it. DD and I took baths in each bathtub using all of the ice in the ice buckets and then went out to watch us sail away on the balcony and about 10 min later a maintenance man appeared in our room while we were on the balcony and proceeded to get it fixed. Another annoyance was in St. Thomas I think (it's been a month) when we returned from going into town we walked into our room and there was a maintenance man in our room moving all of our stuff out of the way so he could paint. It would have been nice to have been warned about the maintenance so we could have been prepared a little bit. I hadn't been prepared for someone to be in my room so I wasn't dressed to go on the excursion and he never even offered to leave the room. THankfully we had the room next door and I went in there but it felt weird to have a guy in there doing stuff and we weren't even warned it was a possibility.

Hope it's fixed for you on your cruise!

Heidi...Thank goodness you had the other room or at least a verandah where you were able to open the door and let fresh air in, we had an outside stateroom. no fresh air. ugh.

That is the only thing I think that will make me stop cruising after this cruise, unless we get 2 staterooms. From what I've heard here it is normal for the cabins drains to emit the odors like that. Nothing like good old hotel suites.
