rebooking on a canceled flight credit to cancel again?

wondering if any one has experience with this.

we have a credit with american for a canceled covid flight from april. I really wanted to do disney march 2022 but they say I have to use the credit by December 31, 2021.

lets say i book a flight and then cancel that flight.... would my reschedule window be extended past that 2021 date?

I just got a credit and was clearly told travel has to be completed by 12/31/21. So no your plan wouldn’t work- rebooking will not extend the credit.

Nope, won't work. Airlines wouldn't leave a loophole that big open.
That said, I'm hoping some of these credit deadlines do get extended given how limited travel opportunities still are.

Yeah I thought I was probably out of luck but you know... wishful thinking..

Do you have to use (book) or travel by?

I had a May 2020 trip booked with United, cancelled. Used credit (with no change fees) to book May 2021. Had to postpone that to October. My credit said must use by July 28, 2021 (original purchase date back in 2019!) - turns out as long as I booked by then, it counted towards my 10/21 trip.

Long story short, call the airline and ask!
