Rebooking at the 7 month window

We currently have a 5 night points reservation in November followed by a 1 night cash reservation in a 2 bedroom standard view at VGF.

We would like to cancel the cash reservation and book the last night using BLT points at the 7 month window.

Should we call at the 7 month window for the date we are checking in or for the date of the last night?

Is there a way to do this on line since it opens up 1 hour earlier or do we have to call?

You can add that day using BLT points only at 7 months out from that day. You would need to use VGF points to add the day earlier than that

I'd recommend booking that last night online as soon as the window opens. If you are successful, you can then call MS & ask to have the two separate reservations combined (not linked, COMBINED).

hat way the reservation will appear to the resort as one,continuous reservation and there will be no issues with checking out and back in again between the 7 day & 1 day reservations.

Assuming I understood you right, you have all 6 night booked at VGF in the same sized room and view.

I would book at 8am night #1 using BLT points at exactly night #1's 7month mark. Then 9am call MS and have them cancel night 1 and add on night 6 -using VGF points. Then have them link BLT points night #1 to the other reservations.

This is all assuming there's availability at 7 months. Otherwise you'll have to wait till the 7mon mark for night #6 and hope it's available.

The cash reservation may come from an entirely different inventory, and be unavailable for a points reservation after you cancel.

We've avoided cash reservations because they are so expensive (whole DVC thing started was because we wanted to stay at a deluxe location without paying the price) however we've added a day onto existing reservations at the 7-month mark many times.

Go online at 8am on the day your 7-month window opens for the LAST day (the one you currently hold a cash reservation for) and make your reservation with your BLT points. If it is not available, waitlist it and keep your cash reservation. You have until 7 days out to cancel the cash reservation without penalty (*I think it is 7 days...someone correct me if I am wrong). That way, if you don't get the room right away, you can give the waitlist a chance without losing your reservation completely.

We did the same thing with our Easter trip to HHI. I booked the first night (Sunday, on the last day of the lower season) with cash and then the last 4 with HHI points. At the 7 month mark, I overslept and waited until noon only to find out that there was no availability. I waitlisted (using my AKV points) and held on to the cash reservation. The waitlist eventually came through (about 4 months later!) so we were all set.
