Rebooking a Ding

Has anyone ever canceled their original flight to book a Ding and then got shut out of the Ding leaving only very expensive seats to repurchase? Or if this happens, can you call SW and they will help you somehow? I'm waiting for a Ding, but I'm nervous. I will need four seats.

Hasn't happened to me so far. Like other people on the board, I open two windows...one all the way to the purchase window for the new flight, and one to cancel the current booking. Once the booking is canceled, continue the purchase with however many seats I am booking for.
