Rebels are back in 2012

Katie Congratulations on your wedding plans. I have to admit that I completely missed it in your signature. Nice job with the back to back halfs. Good luck with the full next year. We have a whole year to talk Manda in to coming.

Manda Sounds like a good plan to hit 50 miles a month. A couple of 3 mile weekday runs, and then a longer one on the weekend. You can do it.

Katie: Sounds like you have a busy spring. I have trouble finding races I want to do in the winter/early spring. Not much going on local and I am running out of Money to do all the destination races. That is the only thing really holding me back from committing to WDW 2013. I just don't know if I will have the cash. I want to do it soon though, because I really want a C2C. The trouble is if I do WDW next year I will still have to do the DL one that fall. Too bad they don't count it as a 12 month year instead of a calendar year. I love all the racing I have been doing, but I didn't count on it being quite as expensive of a hobby as it has been. (and neither did my husband. He would like to go on a vacation that doesn't include a race)

I was able to get 3 1/2 miles in on Tuesday. Didn't get any last night because I got home from work with a killer migrain. I get those way too often, but try to work around them. I crashed for a nap and then had to go to some meetings and then the night was over. Plan is to hit the TM as soon as I get home tonight and get some miles on the books. So I am at 16.5/50 for the month. I have some catching up to do!

I did get a new pair of shoes and wanted to ask some of you how often you rotat shoes. I know that the guy at the running store would have me changing shoes 4 times a year, and I can't afford that. I think I ran this last pair to death, because it has been almost a year since I bought some. What do you guys really do? I may need to switch my budget around and get shoes more often because it feels really good to run in the new ones!

Have a Great Thursday everyone!

Mike - Thanks for the warm welcome back. The only race that I am sure of right now is March 17th. I will be running the Get Lucky 1/2 Marathon in Minneapolis. We will have to decide our other races soon.

Katie - I can't wait to read about your Disney wedding plans! My DD dreams of getting married there one day (she is only 15 right now :rotfl:) Sounds like you enjoyed running the two half marathons - that is really cool! My goal is to do the Goofy in 2014. :upsidedow

Manda - I like that you have set a monthly goal. I think I need to do that. New shoes are a struggle for me as well. I buy 2-3 pairs a year. Last year I only used 2 pair and my 2nd pair were totally dead by the time I bought my new ones. I never thought that running would be expensive but by the time I add up the shoes, the entry fees, the traveling, the special foods, the clothing, etc...it has become a very expensive hobby. I have to work at cutting back on other things (like using many coupons when shopping) so that I can afford this habit! :rotfl2:

I have not run much this week. We had a lot of stress in the family with a sick cat and I love to make excuses right now not to run. Tomorrow I am going to run no matter what. My bigger goal is to go for a longer run (5-6 miles) on Saturday. I am going to focus on the distance and not the speed because that is where I am really struggling. I also want to plot out my training plan to be sure that we are ready for the 1/2 in March as well as consider if we can be ready for a full marathon in June. So much to do and so little time! :rotfl2:

Manda-I change ky shoes after about 300 miles. I use runningahead.com to track the mileage and some pairs I will swap earlydepending on howmy knees feel in a given pair. I usually have 3 pairs in rotation at any given time which can help them last longer. As a pair gets higher in mileage they will be switched to crushed stone trail and treadmill only.

Fueling up formyrun now. Wentout of 3.55 miles on Wed and today Jam thinking 4.5.

I am officially signed up for the DL half! :cool1:

Manda - We are in about the same place, I get about 5 months (350 - 400) miles per pair of shoes, but the note in my running log each time says "too many miles". 300 is probably more correct.

Jen - I saw the website for the Get Lucky. I think a 7k and Tripple 7k is funny/cool.

I'm getting ready for a long run tomorrow. I slacked off this week and haven't gone since Monday. Got cold (20s) and I'm a wimp, so there are a couple of hours on a treadmill looking at me tomorrow.

If anyone has a race they want on the calendar, just let me know what it is.

Mike

Mike - Thanks for putting the Get Lucky on the calendar! We have done the 7K for the past 2 years and it has been a really fun race. This year we decided to go with the 1/2 marathon and are going to hope that the weather is not too bad. In Minnesota, mid-March is prime blizzard weather! The first year we ran it, it was COLD. Last year it was pretty mild and great running weather. We will hope for something similar to that!

Katie - Are all your shoes the same? How do you keep track what pair has what miles on it?

Cherie - That is exciting that you signed up for the DL half! When is it? Will you now qualify for a coast2coast medal? BTW...I love the photo in your signature!

I am kind of sad that the weekend for the Tink is coming up. I registered for it but plans changed and so I won't be going. :sad2: I will be thinking of all the WISH friends I know who will be running it though.

On a positive note...I signed up for one more race tonight. DH and I will be running Grandma's Marathon (Duluth, MN) on June 16th. We are debating running the Minneapolis Half Marathon on June 3rd but will wait on that one just a bit.

This week we actually have run 3 times so far. Tonight it was cold (16° with blowing winds and snow) so we had to bundle up with several layers for our 3 mile run. It actually was a bit of a good run for me. We slowed our pace down and at each mile, we walked for 1 minute. While DH wants to be improving our pace, I want to be sure that I train better this time and don't end up running in so much pain. My shin splints are always a problem and I am planning on doing some special exercises to help with that every day until my legs feel stronger again.

We are planning on getting up early tomorrow and doing 5.5 miles. Tomorrow I will probably do a bit of weight lifting as well. We are scheduled to rest on Sunday but I will probably do something like a slow walk to get my exercising in since I am trying to lose 20 pounds right now.

Hope everyone else is having a great week.
Jen

Jen-My shoes are all the same model. Sometimes they are different colors or modal numbers which makes them easier to track. If I do have two pairs of the same model and color going I will take a sharpie and make a small.letter on the inside of the heals. That also helps keep track of which oeft shoe goes to which right shoe. Do.not mark the tongues on the inside as even sharpies will bleed onto.your socks.

I am in Disney for one more weekend celebrating my future step sons birthday so no long run for.me this weekend. Back to.it after I fly home Sunday.

Katie Have a safer flight back tomorrow.

Jen:worship: I can't believe you want to run a half in Minnesota in March, and that you ran outside at 16F.:crazy2: might be a better smiley. I was on the treadmill today.

Cherrie Good luck at the Disneyland half. I keep meaning to do it. Maybe in 13 for a C2C.

I did my first official marathon training run. 17 miles on the treadmill, because I am a wimp and do not run in the snow. I am planning on running the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon at the end of April. I have done that half a couple of times, but this will be my first full since 1984. I called it the first marathon training run, because until then I was just way ahead on my half training.

Mike

Katie - So do you write down every time you run what shoes you were wearing so you can track the mileage of each of them? I struggle just to get my runs recorded and am not sure if I am organized to keep track of mileage on my shoes.

I hope you have had fun in Disney!

Mike - Great job on your run today. I can't believe that you ran that far on the treadmill! :scared: I hate the treadmill so much and would much rather brave the cold. :upsidedow

Today I got out and ran 5.5 miles. It was 8° and windy. I simply added one more layer which I then regretted because I ended up being too warm. DH and I ran down to a lake that is near us, around the lake (it is fairly sheltered from the wind) and then back home. This is a route that we do often and is pretty hilly and helps with our training. Today we ran 2 miles, walked 60 seconds, ran to mile 3 and then walked 60 seconds, etc. It really helped me feel like I had enough energy to get through the miles today. Our overall pace with walking was 10:30. It is hard because DH is ready to run faster but I am still struggling some.

Tomorrow is suppose to be a day of rest but I have decided that I am going to do a strength training workout from my trainer.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
Jen

Hi there Rebels! Happy new year!!!

Update on me... I just had knee surgery to fix my meniscus. I completed Beachbody's Insanity workout over the holidays (LOVED it) and I moved to Yellowstone National Park. (last January... I've been here for a year now.. LOVE it)

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and root you on! I should be back to working out in 4-6 weeks :goodvibes

Jen-I use RunningAhead.com to record my runs which allows you to create shoes and assign them to runs. It is simple to.use and allows you to easily pull up a pair of shoes and check the miles.

Whats up Rebels,
If you guys are looking for new members, I'd love to join. Here is a little info on me. My name is Steve and I'm 26. I've completed the 2007 WDW half and the 2012 WDW marathon relay. I also attempted the 2008 half but had to quit about half way through with knee problems.

I used to post on these boards when I was in school under the name UTGuitarist27. However, when my school email went inactive I lost the ability to recover the password for that name. so I started this one. I think I was actually on the original iteration of this team.

Anyway, I'm entertaining the idea of doing the WDW marathon in 2013 and I also plan on doing the W&D half. My training plan is to lift twice a week, run twice a week, and box once a week. I'm looking forward to being active on the boards again and running a few more races.

I definitely remember you being on the team before Steve. Welcome back! 2013 is a good year for the marathon...hello anniversary bling!

Welcome Haas - Boxing and running have a long history. Mostly running to fight, but fighting to run might work as well. Looks like a ton of people are planning on 2013 marathon weekend.

Whats up Rebels,

Thanks for the welcome. Id be lying if I said the 20th anniversary didn't play a part in my choosing to do a full. I knocked out a 30 min. run today so this week I'm 4 for 4 with workouts. Hopefully I can keep it up. I also think im going to run the inaugral Canton half marathon in June. It looks like it will be smaller than your average marathon weekend, but I can't say no to an event in my backyard.

I typically run three times per week. I haven't done any cross training but may try that one day per week. Glad to be back in the grind if it after the half. I was kinda scared I'd change my mind. :rotfl:

Jen: Excuses are good. I use them all the time. I have had a week where I just haven’t been home much, so the mileage totally fell off. I had plans for a good long run last weekend, but we were remodeling a bedroom and I somehow didn’t fit it in. Then all week was just crazy. I put in 5 on this Saturday, and even that seemed like it was pushing it. But now I am WAY behind on my mileage goal, so I will make time for it this week. Can’t fail in the first month.
Sorry you won’t be able to go to Tinkerbell :sad1: It is hard when you have to sign up for these races so early. I am impressed with the running in the cold! I tell myself I would go out if it wasn’t icy outside, but Really, I am a wimp and don’t like the cold that much. That is why I live in Utah and not Minnesota – it is so much warmer here.:beach:

Katie: I have thought about having more than one pair of shoes, that way they can air out between runs, but I have never been able to bring myself to buy two pairs. Maybe I will try that this time. Hope you had fun a Disney.

Cherie: I am signed up for Disneyland too! It was more expensive this year, and that almost made me stop and reconsider. But it was my first half ever, and it has a special place in my heart :lovestruc(awwww.)

Mike: Great job. The longest I have ever gone on the treadmill is 8 miles. My TM times out at 90 minutes and I have to start it over. Maybe if I were faster…or more dedicated. I can’t bring myself to start it again once it stops.

Suzann: Glad to hear from you! Where in Yellowstone do you live? Are you working there? I love Yellowstone. My family has some property in Island Park ID and we hope to someday build a cabin. But I love it up there. It is one of my happy places! We are hoping to do a trip up there this summer. I can’t wait!

Steve: :wave2: Welcome to the Rebels. We are always happy to add people to our ranks.

AFM: Well, I did sign up for the DL half. I thought I would try to fit in the Wine and Dine this year and get my C2C so I didn’t have that hanging over my head anymore (I really want one!). But this weekend I talked to my brother in St. Louis and he wants to go to DW to do the half next January. So I totally want to go with him and his family. Now it is turning into quite a big trip. So you may have convinced me to go next year. I will start saving money now! We are trying to decide if we stay on property or just rent a house somewhere. I think if everyone comes there will be at least 16 of us! Wow.

I have less than 2 weeks before my half in California on Superbowl Sunday! I have not trained as well as I wanted, but I should be able to do OK and hopefully not kill myself. I was worried about where I was going to go to watch the game, but now that the 49ers lost (boohoo) I don’t really need to watch it. I will probably try and fit in a couple days at Disneyland now. Hope the weather is good.

Steve: Great job with the workouts!

Cherie: Cross training is good for breaking up the routine and also help keep your body stronger for running. If nothing else I recommend doing core work several times a week. It was a week core that led to my back injury this past summer and had me out of running for months. I don't ever want to do that again.

Manda: Sounds like the stars are aligning nicely to get you to WDW next January. :D Staying off property certainly is a good option with a group that size. I will say after the drive to the half marathon this year that I recommend planning to be in the parking lot by 3:30 AM. I targeted getting there by 4 this year and nearly had an heart attack over the traffic. I made it to the corral but I missed the anthem and just made it to close to the start for my comfort.

I've managed to miss my long runs the last two weekends which makes this weekends run a high priority one for me. I need to get ready for Princess!
