Rebel Alliance Roll call

Hey everyone. I hope those of you on the east coast are getting dug out and finding places to run (if you're not to tired and sore from shoveling :thumbsup2)

I was able to get out again yesterday and did my 30 minute walk (split in two) and my 30 minute run with 9 minute intervals. It was about a 15 minute walk to where I found to run, so I counted the walk there and back as my 30 minute walk my plan calls for. Today I plan on doing the same and I should be all caught up  Yesterday the 9 minute intervals went pretty well. Today will be 10 minute intervals and should be the first time (since I started this plan) that I'll run for a mile without a walking interval. Yesterday I think I got to about .99 of a mile in a 9 minute interval. I'm excited to get out there today. I just have to survive genetics class, and lab.

I guess everyone is stuck in snow today. Not much to report today since it was a day off in my program.
It is minus day one before the Olympics and I must say that they talk a lot about it in the news. A lot of pressure on our Canadian athletes to win gold medals: and a lot is expected from our hockey team. Being a hockey fan, I think the competition will be tough but a lot of matches will be great. Well time to go walk the dog before she destroys the room. have a nice evening.
Go Canada Go :cheer2:

Diane

I can't wait for the Olympics to start tonight. I don't really care so much about the opening ceremonies because I don't see how anyone will top what China did for theirs. I do enjoy the winter sports much more than the summer though. During the last Olympics I really got into curling :lmao: Everyone I know thought I was crazy for watching it, but it's really interesting.

As far as hockey goes, I'm not sure who I'm rooting for. I am a Sabres fan, so I hope USA does well since Ryan Miller is the goalie. I think Russia will be really dangerous, but it would be neat to see another surprise gold though like last time.

Hmmmmmm.....Go out running or genetics class. Since I do not do well with that whole "science stuff", I would consider running as my reward for surviving class. If I NEVER have to name a muscle in the body again, it will be too soon!!!

Congrats on the intervals. That is great. It is amazing how smoothly and quickly they all just kinda slide together and add up.

Looks like I will be hitting the treadmill again today. We have dry pavement on the roads in our neighborhood, but it's only enough room for one car at a time, not to mention cars will not be able to see me around the snow mountains, so I'm afraid I may get hit.

Hello team,
I have an announcement to make:

For you guys who live south of me, I can rent my snowblower for a cheap price because it has been used only 2 or 3 times this winter :lmao:
No seriously, you can send us a couple of inches if you want, we are ready. As for me, training is going well even if I don't to a lot of distances yet.
I have received my photos from the half-marathon at WDW in January and they look pretty nice. I so want to do that races again and most likely it will be in 2012. And i also have received a new pair of runnibg shoes that I will try Friday.

Have a nice evening
Diane

:lmao::rotfl: - wanting to rent your snowblower!

Diane, could we interest you in posting the pictures here for all to see?

AFM - Just finished 3.28 mi on the TM. My time was not all that great... 13'37" /mile. I think that I run slower on the TM and I am not really sure why. I have read that some people find it easier to run on a TM but I feel just the opposite. I love being outside when I run and need to figure out how to adjust some things on my schedule so that I can run outside a bit more.

I am excited and a bit anxious to run the Virtual 5K on Valentine's Day this weekend. I don't even know why because no one will really be watching me run...I think it is just because for me, I feel like this really commits me to running. Silly I know. To top it off, I just told some friends that I will run a 7K with the group of them on St. Patrick's Day weekend...it is run that rewards you with a huge glass of beer at the end! Despite how fun it will be, this one terrifies me because there WILL BE people watching me. I have NEVER done a real race before...what if I do something stupid? :scared1: I am already worrying about what I will wear (should I buy new clothes, what if I get too hot, what if I get too cold, what if I were something that makes me look fat - yes, this is a stupid one but these are the foolish things that go through my mind). I also worry about what do I need to bring for a 7K race (do I need a water, what if my nose runs - will I remember Kleenex, are there secret things runners always have with them that I don't know about?

Alright, enough about all of that because I am sure you all think I am totally nuts at this point! :rotfl2: Seriously though, anything any experienced runner here wants to share...I will take notes! :goodvibes

Have a great night everyone!
Jen

You're not nuts, Jen! We all should ask questions, that's how we learn.

I think your time was pretty darn good!

I am also excited about the vitual race Sunday. Just think of all of us out there walking/runnning our little hearts out!

Can I just say that I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing group. I have had a rough couple of weeks trying to 'get back into the running thing".

After hurting my knee at the WDW Marathon, I have been a little tentative about just getting back out there and doing it again. I had never had any issues until I hit the 18 miles mark near the end of training, and I know now it was because I did not work up my miles properly.

But getting the chance to ready everyone's updates and posts during a crazy week at work got my blood flowing again. Tomorrow is my day off and I think a lovely 55 degree sun filled Vegas day calls for a nice easy 5k run.

This sunday is the planned start for the training for my this years first half marathon that I am planning for the middle of May. My goal is to also lose a pound every week or two, that way I will be back to the same weight I was last september when I ran my first half at Disneyland. Slow and steady is the name of the game, and soon I will hopefully also see the 180's for the first time since College. WOO HOO!

Sorry I wrote so much. You guys are an inspiration and to the existing team members, thank you for welcoming all of us into your circle.

-Pat

Pat, we're so happy you're here with us!

Make sure to take that 5k run easy. You don't need to be pushing too far too fast. Good luck with your weight loss goal. That sounds like a very reasonable number. Let us know how you progress. And no apologizing for long posts!

Jen, try to relax and just take it one run at a time. I started doing the C25K about 2 years ago. It took me about a year of starting and stopping before I finally found a great running partner that helped motivate me to stick with it. We registered for our first 5K, the Race for the Cure in DC last June. She was so excited and I was so nervous. I wanted to prove to myself that I could run the entire 5K without walking and was so scared. I made it, but I was so slow. But guess what? No one noticed, no one laughed. I wasn't first and I was far from last. The 5K was so much fun! I couldn't wait to sign up for another one. It's funny, I haven't ran an entire 3 miles since. After that race I started doing run/walk intervals based on Galloway's plan. It's much easier for me to commit too. I did my 2nd 5K in September, my running partner had moved and I had really slacked off on my training, but did it anyway. Ran and walked and just enjoyed it. I feel so proud to be among the elite group of "runners". I hope I never stop. I am now registered for a 5K in April and the Expedition Everest Challenge at Disney in June. I am just coming up on a year of being a "runner" so I don't know if I'm really qualified to offer advice, but someone on the DIS shared a quote with me that really helped with my first race and I referred back to it often.

DLF>DNF>DNS=Dead Last Finish is better than Did Not Finish which greatly trumps Did Not Start (I hope I quoted it correctly) You started which is more than many can say.

cwnhokie, I'm so glad you finally found your 'footing' with running. I hope you'll stick around our team and offer advice for the newbies out there (including me!).

That quote is the infamous W.I.S.H. motto. I have been encouraged by it many times. Lately it's been hard for me to remember the middle, about starting at all is better than never starting. That's my personal mental block at the moment!

j-sun, sounds like you are doing good with your training. How was your mile run today?

And how did you survive your genetics class? :scared1:

cwnhokie, please be careful out there! The treadmill will do you just fine.

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend, with no injuries and lots of energy!:cheer2:

I'm going to try to post some snow pictures

cwnhokie - That looks very familiar. There's a chance of a few more inches Monday apparently too.

I did get my run in today. 3.26 miles running with 10 minutes running, 1 minute walking, 10 minutes running, 1 minute walking, and 8 minutes running. I ended up with a pace of 9:18 minutes/mile. I was able to run a mile non-stop in each of the 10 minute intervals  I'm really making progress. I had a 15 minute walk to and from where I run too. Each one of those was about 1.2 miles. The last couple days have been tiring, but I'm all caught up on my plan now.

cwnhokie - Love the snow pictures! That is a lot of snow!!!

j-sun - Great job getting caught up on your plan! :thumbsup2 Sounds like you had a really nice run.

Today is an off day for me. I am going to do a bit of stretching an some work on the balance ball but that is it.

Looking for some advice - I am going to do the virtual 5K on Valentine's Day (Sunday). What would you suggest for tomorrow if I want to try to have a good run on Sunday? Here is what my past days have looked like:

Sunday - Completed 4 miles with a pace of 14'44"/mile
Tuesday - Completed 3.21 miles with a pace of 14'20"/mile
Thursday - Completed 3.28 miles with a pace of 13'37"/mile

Would you run or walk on Saturday? Would you take the day off?

I normally would run on Saturday and Sunday is usually my longer run day. As always...thanks for all the great advice you all give me! I would not become the runner I am without all of you!!!

Jen, it sounds like you would normally do a run tomorrow, so I say go ahead and do one. Don't try to be super fast, save that for your 5k. Get in a couple of miles at a relaxed pace.

Andrea - Thanks for your advice. I did do a 5K today...not fast but I did push a little bit at the end just to finish! :rotfl2:

Today I got did 5K done...it took 38 minutes. Today I ran in an industrial parking lot (round and round but at least I was outside). It was pretty cold and icy though so that was not the nicest.

I am hoping to do at least that good tomorrow for the Virtual Valentine's 5K. My plans are to run around 11:00 (so that it has warmed up a bit).

Another question...I love all the great graphics the different teams have. Do we have one?? Just thought it would be fun to add if there was someplace to find a Rebel Alliance graphic.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Jen

Despite the cold and wind I had a great run today. It was my third day in a row running because I was trying to catch up on my plan, so I expected it to be tough, butI felt great. I did 3.4 miles (the most I've done so far) with 11 minutes running, 1 minute walking, 11 minutes running, 1 minute walking, and then 6 minutes running to finish. My pace was 8:55 minutes/mile and I wasn't even trying to push it. Can't wait until Monday to run again. Tomorrow is my day off.

Heading out for our 5 mile run today. We are also using some of this run to count toward the Virtual 5K today for Valentine's Day! It will be easy to figure out because my husband got an iPod Touch for his birthday this week and this is our first run with him using the Nike+ application so his "Best 5K" will be our 5K time today out of the 5 miles we do...pretty cool! So glad it will calculate that for us-I don't think I could do the math!
We'll be back with a report soon!

ran 3.22 mi on 2/14/2010 at 12:04 PM with a pace of 12'33"/mi http://nikerunning.nike.com/n/r/en_US/2014009936/946882140/?sitesrc=fbk_ab_plus
The weather did not want to cooperate today! It was 32 degrees, "real feel" 17 with winds at 21 mph. The wind made for drifting snow and took our breath sometimes. There is so much snow on the ground that we had to run on the roads, where we usually run the pathways, in a very large retirement village by our house. There were so many scared seniors driving that we made nervous that we ended up coming to a complete stop to let them pass. We ran with the dog and I think that added to the drivers nervousness or they just wanted to look at our unusual mutt!
Our Virtual 5K time for today is 38 minutes 29 seconds - our worst time for a 5K yet!
Our next scheduled 5K is Sunday 2/21 here in Etown-#2 in the series of 3 for the Frozen Foot. I am hoping Bob and I will have individual times to report as we each run our own race. Our time will have to be better than today!

Barb and Bob - Good job getting your 5k in, despite the conditions :worship: It sounds like you guys are getting weather similar to us. I've been having to run in the road too.

What kind of dog do you have?

I did the Virtual Valentine's 5K today...38'12".

I will say that it was not my best running experience and the day has been riddled with problems with my Nike+. First, I did 2.6 miles outside...freezing cold with icy roads. My time was horrible because I kept stopping my Nike+ by accident. I probably even did further then the 2.6 miles but had so many technical issues, I had no clue. Finally, I was freezing cold and sweating and decided to stop trying to run outside. Came home got on the TM (old treadmill and the displays don't work properly so still had to use Nike+). Running and running....check to be sure Nike+ is working and had run a little over 2 miles...running and running...check again and it is STOPPED! I stopped the workout and started all over again!

Finally got the whole thing to work and ended up with a full 5K with no stops. I have no clue what my problems were with my Nike+ as I have been using it without these problems for a while.

My legs are now exhausted and I am going to try to take it easy the rest of the day.

Feeling better after my cold and did the Virtual Valentine 5k in 38:56. Not my best time, but hey, I got out there. Back at it next week, starting with swimming at 6:30 in the morning tomorrow. I wish they were closed for President's day!

Hi everyone.
DD and I were out today (37degrees) and did our 12miles in Sandy Hook State Park here in NJ. Couldn't do the trails, but walked on the roads which were clear and not icy. ::woohoo:
We participated in the Virtual Valentine's Day 10K and our time was 1.20m (was very cold and windy so there was a needed potty break in there).
I am so happy that I accomplished these 12m. and still felt OK. ::yay:
It is taper time for us now as we anxiously await the Princess Half.
Thanks to all Wishers for their encouragement and support.:grouphug:
It has been a good day

Jen, I have created some graphics, although I am not super happy with them. I will post them here soon and I welcome everyone's feedback and suggestions.

I hope everyone has a fantastic, active week, whether you're training, tapering, or just getting out there and moving! :cheer2:
