Reassure me - UPDATE post 48

Serious but not fatal, what the heck does that mean? Do nothing and call me tomorrow, really? How can they determine if you are having an allergic reaction to the drug by a phone call? More importantly how can they assure you that you will not have a breathing issue if you are having an allergic reaction? So odd.

Also wondering if your symptoms are not related to the medication at all. Tightness in the chest with lip tingling are symptoms that should be checked out.

I'm here alone; I'm reluctant to call an ambulance (the tingling really hasn't changed in several hours, and all I've had to eat in that time is some Cheez-its - and to drink, water); on the other hand, I'm reluctant to go to sleep, too :)

I mean, I'm not totally alone. There are about a hundred other apartments in this building, plus I know even if I can't speak, I can dial 911 and get immediate help (I could also go to bed and bring something to pound on the wall in case I need help, and annoy the guy next door - kill two birds with one stone ;)

Please call him tomorrow night around this same time and let him know how things turned out.

I'm sorry, but this sentence isn't too clear. :confused3 Did the pharmacist ask you to call him tomorrow with an update on your condition?

A trip to the ER would make you ... and all of use feel better. Do you have someone who could take you?

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Can you take a cab instead? I know you don't want to shell out for an unnecessary ambulance, but take a cab. Is there a firehouse nearby? They might have an EMT guy on call there. He can at least take your vitals.

I agree. Pharmasists are not exactly doctors, and the response from the dr is not really helpful either. For what it's worth, when my 1st ds was 13 months old he spiked a 105 fever in the middle of the night. I called the answering service and the dr called me back. She told me not to let him play basketball, and to give him Tylenol. DH called back, turns out she hadn't woken up all the way when she called me back, she had been watching the basketball game when she fell asleep, and she thought I said 100.5 fever.

If you are having tingling like that I'd call 911. (I do have some medical training too, if that makes a difference)

Can you at least go to the ER and just sit in the waiting room for a while? Then you can always flag someone down if your symptons get worse. I'm concerned for you too.

It occurred to me too that you might be having an allergic reaction to something other than the medication. So what the pharmacist said might be irrelevant.

As someone who used to ride on the ambulance, and whose husband is a 911 dispatcher, do not be afraid to call 911 that is what they are there for. Do not rely on the fact that if you were not breathing you could still call 911 and get an ambulance. A lot of factors determine whether you would get an ambulance in that case, and it would likely take longer, nor would I rely on banging on the wall. What if the neighbor didn't realize you needed help?

Please do not be afraid to call 911. Too many people have bad turn to worse because they don't want to bother 911.

If you are afraid to go to sleep, then call 911. It's better to be safe. Especially being alone.

Also, do not wait to call 911 until you are not breathing, from the time you stop breathing you have 6 MINUTES until you have brain damage.

I'm not trying to scare you, I just don't want something to happen to you because you don't know these things I'm saying.

Do you think if I walked over to the ambulance company - across the street - they'd do this? The fire station, I'd have to drive :)

Are there people there? (I'm just asking because I'm not sure if you live in a volunteer town, or a town where there is an on call crew in the station at all times).

If there is someone there and you are really against calling 911, then you could go there. They'll help you.

Also they will pretty much do the same stuff they would do if you called 911 and they came to you, so why make yourself walk across the street?

I wouldn't go across the street. It will probably just be a dispatcher there. The trained people would probably be out in a rig unless you caught them between shifts. Plus it could be an insurance mess since they weren't called by the paramedics. If you are concerned call 911, that is what they are for.

Who is there depends entirely on what type of department it is. And if they are a paid department if they are not on a call they are likely in the station. They don't drive around aimlessly if they are not on a call. And usually the dispatcher is not in the same location as the station, again depending on the town. Also I don't think (I could be wrong) that the insurance would care whether the ambulance was dispatched because someone called 911 or someone walked in.

However, I agree the OP should call 911, I have said so at least 5 times in different posts. I was just saying if she is insistent on not calling 911, but wants to walk across the street like she said she did, it's better than going to sleep, but again in my previous post I said make sure there is someone there. (Even if it is just a dispatcher they will get her an ambulance in the same amount of time it would take to get to her house since it's across the street).

I agree. Take a cab to the E.R. Most of them make you sit & wait anyway. Sometimes an hour or more. If in that time, you feel better, you can always leave. But, at least you'll be with other people who can help. Bring reading material.

What if he's not home this weekend? The DIS was exceptionally quiet tonight. He might have gone away, like others did.

I don't think you should risk it. I know it's really annoying to have to go to the ER this late, but something small could turn into something big. Once my husband (then fiance) had this red mark going up his arm, which we thought was just a rash since it was tender and sore. went to the ER in the middle of the night and it turned out he had septicsemia. He was in the hospital for four days before they finally found an antibiotic that would work. Bottom line, don't risk it.

Hoping the OP stopped responding because she is getting medical attention, and not because something happened. Please let us know you're okay when you get back online

My thoughts exactly as I am reading through this. I do hpoe you are getting the help you need right now. Please let us know once you are home and safe.
