Reasonably priced mattress?

I really need to replace the mattress and box springs in the spare bedroom. The thing is, that bed doesn't get used very often so I really don't want to spend big bucks. Nothing like a Sleep Number bed (which I have) or anything similar. Just a good decent mattress set for a reasonable price.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Do you have a sams club or costco near by? They usually have great prices on mattresses and box springs. You would of course have to figure out how to get it home but that saves you delivery fees you might get from other stores.

Define reasonably priced.

We just bought a new set for us and also looks at replacing our guest room mattress. A decent option at the mattress store was about $500, about a quarter of what our master bedroom mattress cost. They had mattresses from $300 to $10,000 dollars:scared1:

Do you have a Big Lots near you? We bought our mattress there, got a great deal. Be aware that they don't deliver, but they will have a delivery agent you can hire (or not). We've actually bought mattresses for the master bedroom, our D's room and for D's apartment at college all at Big Lots.

We just replaced our mattress with one from Costco. We tested it out in the store (looked pretty stupid dragging a mattress onto the floor and laying on it in Costco!), but went home and ordered it online.. I was VERY pleased to see that they had free shipping, and it was much more reasonably priced than the mattress stores.

Otherwise, Ikea for a cheaper solution, especially if it won't be used a lot.

We've bought two mattresses from Sears.com
When they have their sales (pick a national holiday...) they are fabulous prices.

We've bought our last two mattresses (a twin and a king) sight unseen, and I actually like both of them better than the mattress we spent hours going store to store trying out that we had before these ones.

You need like a week of nights in a mattress to know if it's good- so just laying on them in the store really doesn't do that much. I'm good with online shopping (and for Sears, the prices were good enough that we figured if it wasn't something we liked, it was inexpensive enough we could ditch it after a year or two. Luckily we love it- so we'll keep it 10 or so, like we usually do.)

I just got a 900$ mattress at sears for 220$ so check out their clearance first!

Costco has a great mattress and box spring in the store right now for a good price. We bought two sets last summer for our kids and they are both real happy with them.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate all the replies.

After reading all of them, I realize that I left out a few key pieces of information while posing my question that would have been helpful for people to know before replying. My apologies!

This would be a full size mattress set. Delivery and hauling away the old mattress set would be pretty important to me, even if it's not free. I'm not a member of either Sam's Club or Costco, unfortunately. I'd love to get a decent set for between $500 and $700 if possible. Sounds like, from what a couple of you said, that it may actually be possible to stay in that price range.

I'll definitely check Sears to see what they may have on clearance. There's an Ikea in the Detroit metro area, but it's about an hour away from me. Haven't heard of a Big Lots around here, but I'll check their website to see.

Thanks again to all of you for your help! :)

If you have a friend with a Costco membership, you could go with them and buy the mattress set. It really is a steal. We bought the full- sized for $350 a set. They are Sealy Posturepedic Bellbrooke firm. Great quality for the price.

That does sound like a great deal! Were you able to have them delivered, or did you haul them yourselves?

I would check on Amazon. I got a great memory foam King mattress for $600. Free shipping too. I got rid of my old one by posting on the free section of Craigslist.

No we have a truck so we brought them home ourselves.

If you're okay with buying it online, you can purchase without a membership. They do charge a non member surcharge, but it's not much. Even with the surcharge, it can be worth it.

Got our new one from QVC. Paid no shipping & they removed our old one! Was very happy with price & experience!
