My 13 year-old cat is on his third day of thyoid medication, but this odd behavior started before that. He got stuck behind the washer the other night. I just got home to find him stuck behind a stand with his head heading into the back of our media cabinet. It's like he can't figure out how to back up. He's gotten stuck behind the computer desk & the big screen TV. He's also constipated and he's peeing outside the box. He seems to stumble a little. When he wa up on his favorite chair, he'd put a paw down when he wanted to jump off - like he was trying to tell how far down it was. The Vet checked him on Wednesday evening (after initially seeing him last Monday). He was concerned about his vision and blood pressure. Both of those things checked out fine.

Anyone have any opinions of what's going on?

I'm sorry your cat is sick! My cat, Simon, was on thyroid medicine for the last 5 years of his life.

Simon started having similar symptoms to what you describe at one point when he'd had a very small stroke. He didn't act quite the same way, but he did have the seeming depth-perception issues.

Hope your cat is feeling better soon!

Just talked to the Vet again. He doesn't know what this could be either. (I think he thinks I'm kinda crazy!)

AAAwwwhhh!

My 8 year old cat has Epilepsy, but its very calm and peaceful when he has a fit. its like hes in slow motion. Onion gets a bit "spaced" on his meds but vet always says keep him calm, not a lot of noise and no bright lights.

Poor wee soul, he'll be fine, he'll just be adjusting to the medication.
Has vet checked his ears, maybe not hearing too well, that can sometimes make them disorientated.

Sending him happy thoughts! xxpixiedust:

My Fatehr inlaw is a vet.

Possables
Ear Infection?
Stroke?
Nerve damage to the face? Whiskers may not be working correctly, this can throw off the balance.

Try to see if his reacction time is slowed. If it is not slowed it is probably not a stroke.

My poor baby. Now he's not eating. His back legs slip out from under him easily. My Vet says that cats don't get strokes. The only other rare occurance it could be is a possible brain tumor. I have to work in the AM, but will take him to the clinic by noon. I feel bad for my kitty.

My 17 year old cat did this before she passed away. She had suffered from blindness and strokes. Strokes are rare in cats, but they do happen.

Our vet suggested two things:

1) she was dizzy and trying to steady herself

2) (sad one) She was looking for a place to pass away :( When animals sense their time is near, the look for a place of solitude.
