The earliest showing the day we will be a DHS is 9:00 which is really late for my 2 and 3 1/2 year old. (I am not worried about them being scared at all.. they are fearless) I want them to be in decent moods though.

We are having breakfast that morning at 9am at Hollywood & Vine. I currently have an ADR at Sci-Fi for 5:05... but am willing to change/cancel it for a better plan.

I was thinking we might be better off to stay in the park until 3ish and then go back for a rest time. Maybe try for a later dinner (6:30?) elsewhere... maybe at a resort (Open for suggestions) and then be back in line for Fantasmic at 8:00 or so.

I would also be willing to do the Fantasmic Dinner package if it was worth it... but I didn't think any of the restaurants sounded that great for the kids... and it might be rough getting an ADR now.

Suggestions?

We did the Dinner Package last September. Our DD was still 3 at the time, and did just fine staying up that night. The dinner package worked out fine - but we had to eat at like 4:30 ... but now that I think about it, the show was an 8:00 one, not 9:00 like you said. The choices were Mama Melroses or Hollywood & Vine - we chose H&V, and it was great...since it was buffet there was something for everyone, including our picky DD. Given that dinner time, we had a hearty breakfast at the hotel - got to the park a little bit later (like 10ish) then just used our snacks for our "lunch" mid-day. Taking a break mid-day might just work out for you.

Hi Trina, its me, Trena

I think I would go back to the hotel and let them take a nap in the early afternoon. (I know everyone says that, and I've never done it myself but it is a good idea.) I would try for a later dinner in the park (don't cancel yours until you get another ADR).

What resorts are close to DHS? I think TS are pretty limited in DHS and we are already doing H&V for breakfast

Yacht and Beach Club, Boardwalk Villas, Swan and Dolpin, and I think there is one more. Also, lots of places to eat on the Boardwalk. The Prime Time Cafe is our fave TS in the Studios.

Also, I'm guessing the reason F! is so late is because it won't be dark enough to start it earlier.

How were the seats at Fantasmic? Is there a special section since you did the dinner pakaage? We are thinking of doing the package at Mama Melrose.

We are planning on taking DS to see Fantasmic for the 1st time in August. Our plan is to go to DHS in the AM, have lunch at Sci Fi SIne In and then head back to the hotel for a rest. THen we will go back to DHS for a CS dinner and the 9:00 showing.

The seats were terrific...down front, off-cneter just to the right a little bit. They were MUCH better than the previous time we did the show and ended up WAY over on the side, near the top on the FAR LEFT SIDE. Having that reserved time and special entrance really helped....plus I remember we didn't have to "show up" to get a seat super early.

The only way the kids will make it to a 9pm show is with an afternoon nap. Last year we started taking a mid-day break at the resort and it made an incredible difference in everyone. We got up early to go to a park and stayed there until around lunch time, either eating there or returning to the resort for lunch. Then we would go back to our room to rest. We all ended up sleeping. We would stay in the room for about 3.5 hours. Then we would return to a park for the evening.

This will forever be our strategy. No one was grouchy and no one felt tired.

I think if you use this type of plan a 5pm ADR would be OK. You can return to DHS just in time for your ADR and then see a few attractions before Fantasmic.

We always do the dinner package and the kids never have a hard time making it thru fantasmic. Not having to wait in line for seating is a definate advantage and the kids love H&V and MM. Just remember it can be chilly when you are close to the water and the front few rows can get a little wet. Beware of the overpriced glow in the dark merchandise available before the show. There are always plenty of stands and walking vedors to offer up $10 light up toys. Definately worth a trip to the dollar store for glow stix before leaving home.
