So, I've been DYING to eat at the Nemo restaurant with the aquarium at EPCOT, but my DH says I shouldn't since I'm pretty allergic to shellfish!

I can't even eat something if it's cooked with the shellfish.

So, is Nemo out of the question?

The restaurant is Coral Reef and you can absolutely eat there. Make a note on your reservation that you have a shellfish allergy and the chef will come to your table and go over the menu with you. They have a great steak!

Yeah, I couldn't remember the name while I was posting this. Thanks!

I'm really tempted to go even more now!

I have a shellfish allergy too and would never eat there. I don't think its worth the risk and if you did have a reaction how much time would you burn of your vacation at the hospital.

There's shellfish at a lot of restaurants so that might limit your choices. My aunt also has a shellfish allergy and she had the steak at CR with no issues.

The chefs are wonderful at Disney regarding allergies, they bent over backwards at every meal for my DS 1 who has a milk allergy.

If you note the allergy on your ADR and make sure you tell your server then you will have no problems. Disney is great at handling allergies and avoiding cross contamination.

There's a better reason not to eat there. It's absolutely awful... I know that's not what you asked, but it really is terrible.

I have a shellfish allergy and had no problems when eating at the Coral Reef. Have a great time watching the fish in the tank and enjoy the steaks.

We have eaten there a few times with my mom's shellfish allergy and have never had an issue. I don't see it as much different than any place that has shellfish on their menu. We make note of her allergy and a chef came out to speak with us and tells us what she can have and makes sure that everything on her plate is safe to eat.

We liked our meals and enjoyed seeing the fish. If you always wanted to try it I say go for it.

Unless you can't be in the same room with other guests who are eating shellfish, you will not have a problem. Just note the allergy on your reservation.

Personally I agree with those who say it isn't that good, but it does get a lot of decent reviews also.

DH has a shellfish allergy and we've dined there a number of times without issue. He obvi sticks to the steak / meat options. The food is good. I usually opt for the lobster orecchiette and DH likes the NY Strip. Can't say we've ever had a bad meal at CR. And the view is GREAT!

1) Yes.
2) It all depends upon your sensitivity.
3) Like peanuts
. . . a) only eating/consuming bother some folks
. . . b) only touching/eating/consuming bothers other folks
. . . c) being in the same vicinity with airborne particles bother some folks
4) If you have "c" stay away from the eatery.
5) If "a" or "b" , you SHOULD be fine, but check with the chef.
6) The kitchen has a separate area to prepare seafood allergy food. *

* All Table Service eateries have separate cooking surfaces and separate
cooking utensils for allergy preparation. Of course, Quick Service does not
have the same kitchen areas. (As an FYI: Although separate areas/utensils,
Disney does not prepare Kosher, as ALL Kosher food items are brought in
from outside vendors.)

Coral Reef definitely isn't out of the question! Just make sure to note the allergy on the ADR.

I've only ever heard of Columbia Harbor House refusing to serve someone who was allergic to shellfish, but they're a CS so they are more limited than TS restaurants are.

I'm allergic to peanuts and the salmon I wanted at Rainforest Cafe had some form of glaze on it that was made from nuts - they just grilled me a piece of salmon with a different seasoning on it. Disney is great with allergies!:thumbsup2

Personally I would not eat there if I had a shellfish allergy, but that completely depends on you and your allery.

If you would go to Red Lobster or Joe's Crab Shack, then I'd say "go" - but if you'd avoid those places, I wouldn't eat at Coral Reef either. Even if there's no shellfish in your meal, the chances are very good that a child (or possibly an adult) has touched THEIR shellfish and then touched the seat, the table, the wall, the podium, etc. Some of that has been cleaned up, and some has not. If you can handle that, you should be good to go!

We've made at least one dinner or lunch at Coral Reef for 4 of our last 5 trips, and have never been disappointed. 3 of the 5 who are usually in our group rarely eat seafood, and love the steak....(don't let them overcook it though..that was the only issue we EVER had.) The staff is outstanding there...and THE VIEW!!! :cool1:
