A little background: My husband and I used to tent camp all the time, and now that our daughter is 4 we have started wanting to camp again. She has been several times on weekend trips (state parks, that kind of thing) and really loves it. She also went to WDW (not camping) just before her 3rd b'day in 2005 and loved that, as well.

So here's my dilemma...my daughter has mild cerebral palsy. She can walk independently, but her balance is poor (falls a lot) and she tires easily. In 2005, we took an umbrella stroller and were able to use it as a wheelchair. She's much taller now, though, and we don't own a wheelchair. When we have camped with her in the past we have taken a red wagon for her to ride in when she got tired, but that's riding around the campground, not taking it to a bus/boat. Is Fort Wilderness just so enormous that we would be miserable if we tried to camp there with her?

I'd love any thoughts from you guys who have camped there before.

Thanks!

There are transportation/bus stops at every camp loop so you will not have a problem getting around. You can also request a loop that is directly across or next to the Meadows Trading Post and outdoor movie theatre so that the walk is an easy one. You can also rent a golf cart but they are not cheap at about $50.oo a day but a a great way to get around the Fort. I do not really see any major problems and I truly believe you will have a great camping trip at the Fort.

You could request a loop near either the Meadows area (pool, trading post, campfire area, bike barn) or near the Settlement (Trail's End restaurant, marina, beach, another trading post, Hoop Dee Doo) depending on where you think you will spend the most time. That would cut down on the distance you would have to walk or pull a wagon. I don't see why you couldn't take your wagon to the pool, marina, etc with you. I don't know if you would want to leave it at a bus stop or marina unless you could come up with a way to lock it :confused3

You could also rent a golf cart which would make it much easier for you.

I don't think it's possible to be miserable at Fort Wilderness :goodvibes
