Please try not to laugh too hard, but could someone tell me, can the scareactors touch you? I mean like grab at you, not just a poke or a tap. Also, the chainsaws and knives and stuff aren't real, right? I am really kinda nervous about going; we went last year and left after 1 house, and my BF still hasn't forgiven me! So I promised I'd "train" this year to not be such a scaredy-cat!:faint: :guilty: :worried:

They are not supposed to touch you but accidental touches are possible if someone pushes you into them or you run into them yourself, etc. This would be rare though, so don't worry. Also guests are not supposed to touch them either and anyone caught harrassing the scare actors will be escorted out of the park or even arrested for assault. Several scare actors have been injured by guests this year already.

And no the chainsaws and knifes are props and not real.

Actually the chainsaws are real. But they have been modified a bit. The chain is not on it. There's also something fitted on to the chainsaw which protects anyone from harm. It has a special term, but I don't think it would be appropriate to say it on the boards. Don't worry though, there is no chance of you getting hurt by one of the props.

Wow. Do you know what has happened to the scareactors??? I didn't know they had gotten hurt by anyone. I feel bad for them.

Read this forum for some of the stories of injuries to scareactors:
http://www.ioacentral.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=31
One recent injury story was in the thread called "Question for people who work in houses" (on page 2 right now) Another is called "Things not to do in the houses" (on page 4 right now). There may be other stories there also.

With all the alcohol and young people there, I hate to say that I am surprised it doesn't happen more often. If you can't handle going to an event like this without punching someone who jumps out, then you should really stay home. What are you going to plead to the judge, that you were defending yourself against the bad man in the haunted house? I had a blast at HHN and would like to go again in a few years, but I think that they really need to take a look at how much money from drink sales is enough. You can't walk ten feet without an alcohol concession. I think that they are really hanging their scareactors out to dry by letting everyone get so intoxicated. If someone was to get seriously hurt, I could see a major winable suit that Universal should have seen the problem coming and did nothing to protect their workers.

The scareactors go into it fully aware that when they work as a scareactor, they run the risk of getting hit/kicked/etc. It's this reason why I'd never be a scareactor. Though I dont think anyone would dare hit a chainsaw guy.

so what you guys are saying is that the scareactors should be afraid of me instead? ;)
seriously though, I didn't realize that they were in such danger. I imagine it does have a lot to do with alcohol and probably macho guys trying to show off for their girlfriends. That's a shame.
well, thanks for alleviating my fears (a little, I'm still a big 'fraidy cat!!!

luvpooh-
They sense your fear and will go after you...
I was accausted by some scaredy cat like you in the Ship of Screams. She grabbed on to my arm and would not let go. I had to bribe my son not to tell my wife.

The #1 rule to remember at HHN is to never, ever touch or hit a Scare-actor! It's one thing to have a natural reaction to fear like jumping up or screaming. It's another to punch someone. Otherwise, you can go to jail. Locals call it "The 33rd Street Express."

Motherfletcher, LOL! The only one I'd grab onto is my boyfriend, and I don't think he'll mind ;)
Barry, trust me, my only reaction would be to curl up in the fetal position and cower, I'm not taking swings at anyone!!!:faint: Actually, the only thing I will probably do is jump about 10 feet in the air!:bounce:

Luvpooh: This Sunday, in the JP area I saw some scareactor chase after a group of girls. One tripped over her own feet and tumbled. She got up, laughing, but the scareactor went over to her to make sure she wasn't hurt.

I bet the scare actors wish the chainsaw did work at times
