Really stupid DVC AP renewal question?

I should totally know the answer to this but alas I don't. We tend to only buy AP's every other year. My AP's are about to expire and we have a trip planned for Nov/Dec thos year but have no plans to return between now and Nov. I can save like $150 by renewing them now but I hate the April-April time frame.

Do I remember right-If I renew now they are active AP's and will expire in 1 yr. Not from 1 yr of use date.

That is correct, my AP expires in Sept. b/c we evac'd last year for a hurricane. So yes, expire 1 year from AP Anniversary date, not 1st date of use. Researched this myself a couple of weeks ago.

Is saving $150 worth losing 6 months off your APs? I would not renewal an AP unless I was going to WDW within 30 days or so of it expiring.

Thats my point. My hope was...I was wrong and they weren't active until day of 1st use but then I realized I was suffering from an Ambien induced fog and was thinking of the good ole days when that was how it worked.

So .....absolutely not! It is not worth saving $150 and losing 1/2 yr of an AP. I will wait until Nov 29th and buy those bad boys and then get that trip, maybe a late winter, big summer, and early fall trip on them and then take a mandatory 14 month Disney break before buying them again. thats my plan!!!!!!!!! Thanks.

how are you figuring $150 of savings?
highest savings on a renewal would be on an adult PAP, and it is only a $10 savings over a new PAP.
so the maximum those 6 months would cost is $10 (vs $5 savings for a regular AP new vs renewal).

or am i missing something? :confused3

Even in that case, we would wait and purchase a new voucher NOW and use it in November. It makes no sense to let half the renewed AP expire while you just sit home. BTW, the reason I say to buy the new voucher NOW is because the price will likely increase before you go in Nov., and that way you will get in at the lower price.

Using the prices on this website

DVC AP- $369 (before tax)
DVC AP renewel- $324

Both above rates are before taxes.
Thats $45 differnce and we have 4 AP's. So actually thats $180.
Unless my math is wrong.

True, but you get 6 months less to use them, so it doesn't seem like a good financial decision to me.

I didn't like the April-April year anyway. Restarting late Nov gives me the opportunity for at least 4 trips on that AP. Much easier to than A-A for us anyway. If I were to renew in April we would only get 2 maybe 3 trips. With only one being a long trip. we already have VB booked for this July and US/IOA for a week in June and Gatlinburg this fall. I can only manage Disney one more time this year. So I shall wait. It the long run it will save me far more than $180. When I have an AP itching in my pocket, even with no DVC availability...all it takes it one email with a good resort rate and we're going.

gotcha:thumbsup2
i was already tooling around on wdwig so had only looked there :confused3

we had a similar dilemma & found it's just wasn't worth losing 4 months (in our case) to save the extra dollars. btw, i managed to squeeze in an extra vaca to make the passes more worthwhile:rolleyes1
