I have no idea what made me think about this, but for some reason I thought about it today and would really love to know...

If you work at a dentists office, do you normally use that dentist for cleanings, etc or do you go to a different dentist?

To me, it would seem weird to have your boss clean your teeth (it would make me really self conscious about my bad habits) but at the same time, it's not really a great endorsement for your employer if you go somewhere else.

Just a weird thing that I was pondering over today.

Im with you, and the same would go if I worked for a proctologist

1. How many dentists do you know who do teeth cleaning? Don't they usually employ a dental tech to do that?

2. I'll bet they give a sweet employees discount.

3. Before I retired I was an OR nurse. When I had my gallbladder out, you want to bet your sweet bippy that I picked the best surgeon out of all the ones I usually worked with. AND had the surgery at my hospital. With staff that I knew I could trust.

DH is an optometrist and part of the perks for employees and families is free eye exams and glasses.

GUess you wouldn't go to an OB/GYN that you work for?

Doesn't seem weird at all to me.

I went to the doc I work with. AND the hospital I work at too! I picked the best too.

I've worked as a dental assistant for the past 22 years. Yes, I use my office for all my dental work. I wouldn't dream of going elsewhere!!

As a former Labor and Delivery Nurse, the decision whether to use some of the Obstetricians or not was easy for me.....Better the devil you know, than the devil you don't know! I have also asked for a certain anesthesiologist on surgeries, too!

I believe dental hygienists clean teeth and aren't considered techs, and that dental technicians are not licensed to clean teeth. Since you are a nurse, I think it would be akin to someone being an actual nurse vs. being a medical assistant. Nothing wrong with either job, but they are different. Cinderella2004 can correct me if I'm mistaken.

I have a good friend who is a dentist, and she does occasionally do her own cleanings when her hygienist is out. Our old dentist would also clean teeth if his hygienist was out of town.

:thumbsup2

Usually, a "tech" is a lab person. An assistant is who sits chair side during your dental procedures that are not a cleaning. :)

I have always used the dentist I work for. I worked it a huge practice where I had a periodontist take out my wisdom teeth, the orthodontist do my second set if braces, and the general dentist do my exams and any needed work.

I have never had to worry about a tooth ache at least.

Plus if you work in dental you usually have really good oral hygiene as you are an example for patients. Floss, floss, floss. LOL.

The place I work has a dental and a medical facility. I do not use either. I have my reasons.

Actually, my former dentist did his own cleanings. He didn't have hygienists that did that work. After he retired, it was very strange for me to switch offices and see a hygienist for cleanings instead of a dentist. Now I actually follow my hygienist around because I like her so much.

I was wondering about discounts for employees. My dentist seems to be a little on the "tight" side. I don't see him giving much of a discount. I could be totally wrong, it's just the feeling I get from him.

Actually, no I probably would not. But I don't work in the medical field. If I did and was in the environment all the time, maybe I would feel different. (Or maybe I am just weird). :confused3

Ugh flossing....I always feel like a naughty child when I go because I never floss like I should and I get "caught" :)

I had a dentist retire, and in the transition until I found a new dentist I liked, I went to 3 different dentists. This was when the economy tanked and 2 of them eliminated their hygenentist and did the cleanings themselves. Those 2 dentists also got rid of all office staff, (dental tech and office manager) and had their wives run the office.
I never though about it, but I guess to many people, going to the dentist is a luxury that gets cut when money gets tight.

I used to work in a dentist office and I used them for all my dental needs at the time.

My dentist does her own cleanings. Her office policy is that there's only one patient scheduled at a time so she does whatever the patient comes in for, whether it's a cleaning or a filling.

My mom was a nurse at a hospital when she had all three of her kids. She chose to see a doctor who delivered at a hospital across town and had all of us there. She did not want co-workers popping in during her deliveries or tending to her afterward. She thought it would be too awkward when she went back to work.
