Then you have to leave school haha! although you can leave at any time after you're 16

we dont have specified parking areas, but they cant stop you driving to school here!
And everyone wears school uniform.

I'm sure you'll have a great time! you'll get to meet lots of new people!

omg school start at 8!!! i odnt have to be in at my school here until 9!!

we going to be living just north of Chicago.

how do the classes work? is it an 2 hour subject before break and then an hour before lunch and then another 2 hours after lunch before going home at 3.30 or is totally different.

You are so very, very lucky! My classes start at 7:20! I don't live in the Chicago area (or even near Ohio, for that matter...), but schools start at all different times across the country.

My classes worked like this: 2 classes and hour and a half long each, lunch, then three hour long classes after lunch, then dismissal at 2:20. I know schools that start later and get out later, though.

As for parking, at my school there are 230 parking spots for students. Seniors get first priority (and there are 236 of us, but not everybody drives), then Juniors and so on. Different schools have differenc rules, though.

A Senior is grade 12 (usually 17 or 18 years old), a Junior is grade 11 (usually 16 or 17 years old), a Sophomore is grade 10 (usually 15 or 16 years old), and a Freshman is grade 9 (usually 14 or 15 years old). You should be going into your junior year.

Not sure what the equivalent of the GCSEs is over here. I'd probably say it would be the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests. Those are usually taken your junior year. They're usually in the spring, as well. The SAT tests Math, Critical Reading, and Writing. The SAT Subject Tests cover just about any subject and are taken individually.

Well, I don't really know THAT much about high school but around here I know that it starts at 7:15 (freaking crazy if you ask me) and ends at 3 pm. How long is your lunch in England? I heard somewhere that school's in Europe have lunches that last an hour, but that may not be true. Here they last 30 min usually but high school may be 45 min. Usually classes last about 70 min each, and most people's schedules are different.

Cliques suck by the way.

Your school is intense! 70 minute classes?! 7:15-3:00?!

My high school is 45 minute classes it starts at like 7;35, until 1:50. They set it up so its just like doing everything 10 minutes after the middle school. Very strange. Something to with buses I guess.

i am going back to my school for a couple of weeks until i go therefore i get to see all my friends for one last time until i come back in december.

does the school have a problem with you taking time off and usually what time does the christmas holiday start and do u get 2 weeks off like we do.

You're lucky. I'd love to make such a big move like that.
What great new start you'll have.
And the accent is to DIE FOR!

the accent is nothing special trust me.

I think i am most scared of walking into school on my first day and everything looking at me and im scared that i wont make any new friends. i am also going to miss my boyfriend like hell but he is coming over to visit in october so i might skip a couple of days- i know that is bad but i will wont to spend time with him.

i live in chicago, my high school had a parking pass. It was $50 for the whole year or $25 for half.

Thats only like £25 here and that well cheap.

Can someone tell me how long you get for christmas off and any other days off. Do u get a week of in october?

I remember that there's no Half Term in American schools. I think it's 2 weeks off for christmas, a week or 2 for Easter (which I think is Spring Break, right?) and then about 10 weeks off for summer.

I think that's it. I know we have the same amount of days off for school, but British schools have them spread out better, imo.

that so unfair my boyfriend and best friend are coming out in the october week we have off and i thought the american schools have it off as well. that means i will only get to spend 2 days with them and in the week im at school.

We also get a couple days off in November [I get a week, but most school only do 3 days] for thanksgiving. There are also random half days/no school days here and there as well. I like it, but I have never done anything different.

Cliques--Can be really nice or really snotty. My group of friends isn't a clique; we don't label ourselves, and let everyone in. We're a mix of band geeks, athletes, honor students, etc.

Cheerleaders--Overexaggerated in movies/on TV. They can be quite nice, actually. Some aren't as 'stupid' as they are played up to be.

Driving to school--You most likely can. Depends on the school, but you most likely can (I know kids to do my school).

Grade--You'll be in 11th here. Just in time for the SAT's, yay!

As i said before my bf and bf are coming out and would really like to spend time with them. what are the teachers like if you have 2 days of school? Also were going home for christmas and new year so what date do u usally go back into school?

It depends on the school. My Christmas break is usually the day before Christmas Eve til the day after New Year's Day.

SAT are tests for college, basically. The higher the SAT score, the better chance you have of getting into a good college.

There's probably a website that explains it better than me, lol

Yeh i will have a look

We do GCSE over here and you have to get 5 A*-C to do A-Levels in college or six form and we get our results next week. I take these wont be useful for me in my new school.

Do many people play soccer/football?

Oh, sure! 99% of schools have a soccer (football) team for boys and for girls. There are also soccer leagues in your city, if you look. It's not as popular here as it is in England, but it's pretty big.

Thanks its huge of here!!!

Are u allowed mobiles/Ipods in school?
Most schools don't let you have them out during school hours (if you need to call a parent, it needs to be from the office/pay phones). You can have them WITH you, but not out. (I keep my phone in my bag for emergencies after school, really).
