Really?? Is this May or is it August? The Trip of a Bunch of Trips.

My grandson turns seven today! :cheer2: Boy am I getting old. :sad2:

I am hoping to get the next chapter up this coming week ... if I ever get a free moment (that isn't spent sleeping). :confused3

No one has any guesses on this What in the World? :confused3

Chapter Seven

Sea World today. Each year we try to pick a new park to go visit. We use to do Universal every year, but are getting kinda bored of that. Last year we did Gatorland which was pretty cool. We also tried Busch Gardens, which we found very boring and not worth the trip. One day we want to hit NASA. But that one is so far away from Disney.

Even though I have gone to Sea World once before on a very quick run-through with my daughter about seven years ago, Leo has never been. I was interested in seeing what else is there. Turns out that there actually wasn’t very much more to it than what I saw in that quick run-through.

When we got there, we were considering paying extra for the preferred parking. But, since we were there so early, we decided to chance the regular parking. Good choice. We ended up parking right next to the preferred parking spaces.

Once inside the gates … and after all of Leo’s “take my picture” in front of everything … we found the sting ray pool and got to reach in and pet them. They were very smooth and a bit slimy, but very cool. As I looked over at Leo, he had this look on his face like a little boy. Sometimes he is just too cute.

From there we made our way to the dolphin pool to try and pet them. I wanted to feed them, but that was quite pricey. Anyway, we didn’t get to touch them, but I did get blow-holed a couple times. And it took forever to get Leo away from the pool. He was determined to touch one.

We then headed off to the dolphin show. It was a very typical dolphin show, but they are always fun to watch.

What wasn’t fun was the constant kicking of the back of my seat. I thought it was a kid, so I tolerated it for a while. When I finally got sick of it and turned around … it was a grown woman!! Dirty looks all around. But the kicking stopped.

On to my daughter’s all-time fave … the seals and sea lions. These guys really are nature’s clowns. They are so cute. One guy would sit and wave at people until they threw him a fish while another would bark at you until he got a fish. And they are loud. Of course, you had to get the fish past all the birds, which is no easy task.

From there we just meandered (yep, meandered) a bit exploring the park. In our travels, we saw Sky Tower and found out it was no longer an extra fee to ride. But I could not convince Leo to come with me so I rode by myself. It is 400 feet up, which is about 398 feet too tall for Leo. There was no line and no one in the tower when I hopped on. And, of course, the only other people on the ride just had to sit right on top of me. Really?

By the way, this is not my photo. For some reason I did not take a pic of the tower so I got this off the internet.

IMGP6948.jpg
This one is mine from inside the tower.

The Sky Tower was the only ride in the entire park, other than a couple roller coasters. But, all-in-all, we liked the park. However, we did do and see nearly everything by 1 p.m. The only thing we didn’t see was the Shamu show, which wasn’t until 3 p.m.

The shows were great, the park was clean and the prices were ok, but it was very difficult to get around the park. We were spoiled by Disney’s central hub system.

Trying to kill some time before Shamu, we grabbed lunch (which was pretty good) and checked in to see the sharks. The tunnel through the shark tank was pretty cool, even though I couldn’t stand still to take decent photos. There is a moving walkway through the tunnel. But I understand the need for the moving walkway. If they didn’t have that, everyone would be standing still and it would take forever to get through.

While we were in with the sharks (not literally), it started to down pour. So we hung out with the sharks for about 30 minutes, but it wasn’t stopping. In between downpours, we hop scotched our way across the park to … who knows where? I was just following Leo.

IMGP6971.jpg

As we stood in one cubby trying to stay dry, I suggested we dig out the ponchos so we could just walk around instead of dashing here and there.

Nope. Can’t use the ponchos. Don’t want to waste those dollar store ponchos … of which I brought about six. “It will stop raining as soon as we take them out.”

Nope. Just can’t do it.

Hmmmm … $1 poncho vs. $900 camera. You do the math.

Soooooo … ponchos out! And, you guessed it … the rain really did stop and the sun came out. And boy did it get unbearably humid! Again, is this really May or is it August?

Good googa mooga. And there it is. That “I told you so” look.

Anyway, we tried to stay busy until 3 for the Shamu show, which wasn’t as easy as it sounds. But in our meandering exploration, we found the dolphin nursery. I actually liked this one better than the adult pool. And it was really funny when the lady came out with the bucket of shrimp (I think it was shrimp). Every little dolphin in the pool made a bee-line for her and followed her all over the place.

It was finally time to head to see Shamu. And I was pleasantly surprised that they still salute the troops before the show.

The show was great and I am glad we chose not to sit up front in the splash zone. Splash? It was more like a tidal wave! One lady saw it coming and tried to run up the steps to get away. She didn’t make it. She got totally soaked.

IMGP7061.jpg

It’s funny how these same people were probably running from the rain a little while ago but choose to sit in the splash zone to deliberately get soaked. That’s almost as silly as getting out of the pool and running for cover when it starts raining. Storms, yes. Rain?

After the show, I headed out to the car and blasted the AC while Leo went on a last-minute penny hunt.

We were back on the road heading home by 4-4:30 and decided to stop at a Chinese buffet for dinner. It was really quite good and very reasonably priced.

After a very satisfying dinner, we stopped at the Target on the way home to pick up some water and a few other things.

Back home by about 7 p.m., we were thinking about going across the street to the Poly to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach. By about 8 p.m., we decided we were too lazy to move and just chilled in the room and rested up for tomorrow … EMH and opening ceremony at Magic Kingdom. Woo-HOOOOO!!!

Your dolphin and Killer whale shots are fantastic!!! That's what spending $800 more on a camera will do, I guess! haha Haven't been to Sea World (really Marineland Niagra) since the kids were very little. Poor Katie knows all about the splash zone. She was about 3 & we walked past the big tank. While all of us just got soaked from the knees down, we looked at poor Katie & she was drenched from head to toe!! Wish I had pictures, but we just didn't take as many as with digital cameras.

Every time I see someone's pictures of Sea World, it makes me want to go back again! We haven't been since Hunter was 3. I loved that you meandered through the park. I think that's the best way to see Sea World.

I love Leo's little boy attitude! You can tell he's totally excited to see each and every thing.

Hahaha...I can just see a little Katie looking up at you with water dripping from her chin, nose and earlobes and wondering, "what the heck just happened to me?" I can see it because I can picture my granddaughter in the same position. :lmao:

Wait until you see all my "Leo pics" that I will be posting at the end of my TR. He simply demanded his photo be taken in front of everything. It seems every time I take a pic of something, he is right there saying "take me, take me!"

:wave2:Checking in to say I love your TR!! :thumbsup2 Everything you say in observation to people in the parks sounds so much like me. LOL!

I can't wait to see the rest of your report. And you have me even MORE excited (if that's even possible!) to go to SOG and the World in the next month. :hyper:

I love people watching. They can be so amusing sometimes. I just can't imagine what other people watchers say about me. :lmao: And I know all about the "just a bit more excited" syndrom. It seems like you are about to bust sometimes. pixiedust:

such awesome pictures!!! I am so excited to get there, I don't know how I'm going to sleep this week. One week from tonight we head out!!

Good googa mooga!!!! One week? I wouldn't be sleeping either. I would be doing this:  Or this: :woohoo: Or BOTH!

Loving you TR!!!!! Our first trip to shades of green is in less than 2 weeks, I am so excited! This will also be our first time using the military tickets and I have a question. We will be driving in and not getting into the Disney area until the afternoon on our first day. We were wanting to go to Disney quest that day instead of using a park day. Can we do this or do we have to activate our passes at a park first?

Love having you aboard this crazy ride! :cool1: And I am excited for your upcoming trip. On your question ... your park tickets have to be activated before you can use them (did you pay for the extra for DQ?). I am not sure if they can be activated at DQ, but I am thinking they can. You might want to ask at check in. However, my advice is to not waste a full day's ticket if you are only going to be there for a few hours. Do you have the hopper option on your tickets? If so, you can go to DQ on your Animal Kingdom day since AK closes early.

BUT, I have never been to DQ and am not positive how it works with the park tickets. :confused3 Anyone else here know how this works? Lisa knows everything about everything ... Lisa??

Thank you for your reply. We are going to add park hopping and the water park to the tickets....at a price of $165/ticket we just can't pass it up!!! We have never been to quest either, maybe we will spend the night at downtown Disney. I will ask when we check in unless someone else knows. One other question, when will they email so we can preorder the tickets? I am getting excited and antsy!!!! Lol

We got ours about one week out. But if you are getting antsy, call Shades and ask them to send it early. Can't hurt! :cool1:
