So, about 3 weeks ago my husband and I decided to plan a last-minute trip to WDW. We were able to score a 1 bdrm for 5 nights at SSR and a 1bdrm at BCV for 3 nights. We are using a total of nearly 300 points. We also paid about $840 + 36,000 airline miles to fly. Then......I won a trip to Disney from the radio station on Friday :cool1:! However, when I signed up there was no mention of the dates of the trip or any details. Well, we found out that is for the SAME DATES as our trip we have planned. What are the odds:confused3?
I am not complaining by any means.
So, I was on the phone with the rep from Arista records all day Friday as it is in conjunction with a concert promo for Brad Paisley. I was honest and told him we already had this planned. He asked if we could cancel and they would pay for our tickets and our hotel. It was going to cost us nearly $700 to cancel tickets and we were within the 30 days and our points would be in holding and there is no way we could take another trip before our UY is up. So, in order to take advantage of some of the winnings, I had to cancel my ticket so we could at least fly 3 other people with us for free. They are giving us 3 nights room (as was per the original offer). So we had to scramble to find 3 people who could commit to go and were available to sign releases/get them notarized and faxed in about 2-3 hours time Friday. Not any easy task to give away free plane/hotel to Disney! We offered it to our best friends and they accepted. However, now I am thinking maybe I should have called member services to see if they would have waived the holding account rules for us. It would be really nice to have our 300 points back. I also had to pay oop to cancel my ticket so our friends could get free airfare.
I don't mean to complain about any of this, just really bad/good luck to win when we already had a trip planned. Just wish my family was able to take advantage of the freebies!

It would depend on some other factors. What is your use year month? I would doubt the MS would waive holding status, but if there are several months left to your use year, you could plan another trip. Since you were able to plan this trip on short notice, you would likely be able to book another trip on sort notice, as holding points have to be used for trips booked 60 days out.

So you already gave away the trip that you won on the radio... What's your question?
